I want to know if any nurse in Kenai, Saldotna, Homer, and stewart can tell me how it is to live and work in the winter months of the year. I want all the stories. I trying to decide wheather or not to move there.
Thanks

I live and work in Soldotna... It is a wonderful community hospital, a union shop, not a bad place to work for. In the winter it can get to -30, but is usually not quite that cold, around 0 or so. Hospital has days of high and low census, as do every one else. Any other questions, feel free to PM me or e-mail.
How about when the dark days happen. How long have you lived in Soldotna? Tell me is there a Home Depot close by.

You should post this under the region section under Alaska for best results!
When the "dark days happen" and they will, we stay busy. Go to movies, bowling, visit friends, go play in the snow, stuff like that. I have been here about 4 years and to be honest it can get a little difficult in the winter, but, we get out as much as we can and enjoy the short days. Yes there is a Home Depot in the next town...
Do you know how far away the next town is? Do you ever feel sorry that you moved there because of it being so cold. Have you ever gone to pan for gold? My husband was stationed there in alaska for 5 years. He liked it there and still has some buddies that live there....
I have never regreted moving up here, yes, it gets cold, ya just gotta deal with it... The next town is only about 5 miles away. I have not panned for gold, I am usually fishing or hunting... Caught a 52lb King Salmon this year... Last year caught one 45lbs, so, no, I don't pan for gold.
That is so cool. We live here in South Carolina and the humidity I think is getting the best of me. Do you ever miss the heat of the lower 48? Do you rent or have u bought a home. How is the market? What kind of fast food places are there in soldotna? Sorry, just so interested.
Are there job opportunities for RN's or LPN's today that I can check out with the hospital you work for?
There are a few oppurtunities for R.N.'s, however, there is only one LPN working for us and she was "grandfathered" from a good while ago. As of right now, we rent, the housing market is still very expensive up here, as for fast food, well, McD, Subway, Arby's and a few pizza places.
What is the range for renting? Have you visited seward? How are things there?
