Nursing in Adelaide

Hi all

I am most likely re-locating to Adelaide some time early next year so I am starting to do a bit of research about what sort of hospitals I would like to work at, etc.

I am wondering if there are any nurses on this board from South Australia who could share their experiences of nursing in Adelaide. Would be much appreciated. If anyone has some useful sites in relation to the area that would be very useful also. Cheers.

I've never worked there as a nurse but you can get garlic mettwurst and fantastic yiros!

Specializes in Med/Surg/Ortho/HH/Radiology-Now Retired.

Depends which part of Adelaide you will be living in. To help you get started.....

There's the ROYAL ADELAIDE HOSPITAL, North Terrace, Adelaide. This is right in the heart of the city.

WAKEFIELD HOSPITAL, Wakwfield street, Adelaide. This is a private hospital on the corner of Wakefield and Hutt Streets. Quite a nice place to work.

ST ANDREWS HOSPITAL, South Terrace, Adelaide. Also a private hopsital, and nice to work in. It might pay you to join an agency first, do the rounds, then

decide which place you like best.

NASANSB is a good agency to work for, and they have HUGE connections all over S.A. You can obtain both city, metropolitian, and rural placements, through NASANSB, ( NURSING AGENCY SOUTH AUSTRLAIA NURSES SPECIALLING BUREAU). I'll dig up a few more in the next couple of days and msg you with them.

Cheers,

Grace

i've heard that Flinders Medical Centre is great also.. i did hear that from a doc, though, so i don't know what nursing is like there

hello Grace!

I am new to this forum, I have read your message, would you mind to help me for information regarding hospitals. I am doing my new graduate perioperative dedicated stream, i will finish 2009 March. After that, i would like to move to adelaide and work in one of the hospitals, RAH or flinder hospital. I think these two are biggest in the city. I also would like to know which is better for education support, I want to work in ED or ICU.

Thanks for your information

as mentioned there are loads of options for working in adelaide. but nobody has told you about flinders medical centre where i work. its a great place to work!

due to large size they are always hiring.

i work in operating theatres but have friends in many areas all who enjoy working there. its a very busy public teaching hospital. 600 beds i beleive.

only 12kms from the city and even less to the beach!

check it out at http://www.flinders.sa.gov.au/
