Karen, very good article. It is really shamefull how medical companies shower physicians with gifts, free meals and trips which the consumer ultimately pays for.

Excellent article, once again!

I was most amazed when I got to the end of the article to see that the CEO of Jefferson Medical was the writer!

I had a discussion related to this in my Psych class a few semesters ago. One of the students in my class was dating a gentlemen who's father is a physcian. The physcian was given an all expense paid trip weekend for two to Bush Gardens by a pharm. sales rep.

The physcian didn't want to go so he gave the tickets, etc. to his son and his girlfriend (the girl in my class). The girl said it was a great weekend, free hotel, ride tickets, buffets, etc. and all they had to do was sit through an hour long presentation about new drugs on Saturday afternoon. It was held at the park so all they had to do was stop in.

I was just on a rant about this very subject! Do you know how many term babies die of RSV in this country because insurance can't/won't cover the cost of the immunization that would protect them? How much of the $1,000 a vial do you think goes into manufacturing and research of this vaccine and how much goes into crap like the ducky soap dispenser the manufacture gave us?

Good to know that he'll take a stand on something important to a large portion of our citizenry.
