Nurses targeting other nurses. ...are you that miserable.

Published

Why do some nurses try to hard to mess up another nurse's license. Im sure this pertains to everything in this world in that when someone sees that you have something that they want or the same thing they have they try to mess yours up. How do I handle situations where nurses try and make accusations on you, and to defend yourself effectively. I am a new nurse on a unit, and its pretty obvious that the other nurses will quickly believe a nurse who has been there longer, and a nurse they have formed "relationships" with than a new grad nurse, new to the unit. I think I may take it out drastically on the hospital if my license in any way becomes affected because of some jealous or very miserable person who just wants to mess what you have going. Input please

Am not clear on what is being done or you think is being done but it the Board of Nursing in your state will not go just on what someone may say about you - there would have to be documented proof of some major error and what, if anything, would happen to your license is up to the board - not the employer. The only thing the employer could do would be terminate you and, depending on your state, can do so w/o cause or "at will" - other states there has to be a reason for termination.

It sounds like, based on your post, this is more of personalities not mixing..can you switch to another shift or another unit? Doesn't really sound like this is going to get any better...........

to be honest i've not seen what i would call a concerted effort made by a group of nurses to get someone's license taken away. that's not to say i haven't seen nurses target a new nurse with bullying behaviors, though. that is a complicated issue as everyone's workplace situation is different as well as what their definition of bullying is. here are a couple of excellent articles written by one of the staff members here at allnurses that may help you clarify your thoughts on it - i hope it helps some and feel free to post here again. best wishes to you. :)

Specializes in none.

I can't see what issue you are talking about. I have a license in 5 different States I have never heard or saw a nurse loosing their license because of gossip or one nurse talking about an another. I've seen Nurses that shot up heroin on the job not loose their license. Just relax, take a deep breath, and tell us what is the issue and then we could offer advise.
