Nurses role in intoxification..Please, desperate..help

Hey guys. My professor got sick on clinical and instead gave us an assignment due in one week.

The assignment is:

Role of nurse of physical and mental health in chemical dependency.

Basically, she wants me to include 5 basic topics in it:

1) How do you evaluate Patient (suicidal,homicidal, Dual Daignosis)

2) Acute intoxification and overdose (What clues tell you this)

3) Withdrawal Symptoms (whats the nurses role here)

4) Role of nurse in Inpatient Detoxification Unit

5) Rehab (maintenance, preventing relapse)

This is a research paper. I have to include 5 articles in my bibliography.

So, i looked everywhere and cannot find anything on nurses role in intoxification, withdrawal, assessment, and rehab of patients with substance dependance.

Can anyone direct me to give solid articles about nurses role in chemical dependence? Please....Help...i have 4 days to do this.

i worked detox. you want to search for "detoxification protocols" or guidelines. betcha you'll find something if you use those and your other search words on the national guidelines clearinghouse website, but check the internet too:

• national guidelines clearinghouse http://www.guideline.gov/browse/gawithdrawn.aspx?st=a - if there are detox guidelines there they should give you withdrawal symptoms and treatment protocols.

I don't see how she can have a research paper make up for clinical time... I thought most states had requirements for minimums of that sort of thing.

When I had to miss clinical last semester because I was sick, I was assigned to write a 2 page research paper. When we had a snow day this semester, we were given a case study to work up. It's just busywork really, but I guess you do what you have to.

I'm in Tennessee, and if we miss a clinical day we make it up...no matter why it is missed. I would rather do that than a paper, yuck! Give me hands on anytime over research and paperwork! I feel for you...I really do!
