abnormal urine with IPN

Nurses Recovery

Published

I had a abnormal urine ( out of range creatinine) 2 days ago. This will be the second in one year, had the last September 2016.

I am about to complete a 5 year contract with IPN in August. I was going to apply to get out in July. The new policy of Florida IPN is 6 months of consecutive clear negative urines.

which would mean my contract would be extended till October.

I was so excited to go to my 30 years high school reunion end of August to celebrate.

I followed the instructions they gave to empty my bladder 2 hours before then I drank 16 oz of protein shake. I think I drank it too fast. I don't know what I did different.

I am so upset. I have been jumping through hoops since 2006 from California program. I have been tested with PEth test every 2- 3 months because of problems with etg always showing in my urine(long story)

What sucks is now I will have increased testing for the next 3 months - 4 months on top of expensive PEth.

I know I can get through this. I am just frustrated. Some nurses never have problems with testing no matter what they do.

I was going to start training for Flight attendant in July. That is what I want to do with my career. But I have worked so hard to save my license.

Just frustrated

Noooooooo. That sucks. I'm so sorry. :(

Did you talk to your CM about next steps? I'm so sorry you are going through this. I am in the IPN too and I seem to recall a girl in my nurse support group, who has since graduated, having a similar story. I recall she was able to graduate per her contract and just needed to provide additional testing through PETH or hair. If you haven't spoken to your CM yet, definitely do so and keep us posted. Best of luck...so frustrating.

Yes, I talked to her today.

IPN will let you have a abnormal and or dilute urine once a year. If you have 2 in one year then they increase your testing to 3 times a month for at least 4 months.

Well I had one 9/28/16 was giving a warning and tips to prevent.

The biggest thing I am dealing with is the policy a couple of years ago changed to you have to have 6 months of consecutive normal negative test to complete IPN

Because my contract finishes I thought 8/12 (found out I could of been out 6/29), I need 6 more months. They are going to extend my contract till 10/13. Or until I have 6 months normal negative. I have to have increased testing including hair and PEth. I already get PETh randomly.

HEYNOW1313 did the girl in your group have 6 months of normal urines?

I still can't believe this is happening

Gabby

I have written back to Ipn case manager and head of IPN. The contract states you need 6 consecutive urines for completion, but is doesn't say last six month. I just say you will have to have a PEth and hair test if abnormal/dilute in past 12 months.

Gabby

I'm sorry this is happening! I'm in TPAPN (Texas) and when my creatinine is low (below 20) I've noticed they add on a specific gravity. Not sure what that tells them but it's happened to me 4 times in a year and 8 months, and they've never contacted me about it. The first 3 times were all in the first 4 months. The lowest my creatinine has been is 10.3 mg/dl.

I've never paid any attention to how much I drink beforehand to avoid a dilute specimen, but I do make sure I wait until my bladder is full naturally (not chugging water or anything to speed up the process) before I go. I always check to see if I've been selected to test first thing in the morning so I generally don't go to the bathroom when I get up (even though I'm DYING to go when I get up!) until I've checked, and I hold it and go straight to the lab. If I do have to wait until later in the day to go to the lab, I still don't drink more water than usual, I just make sure I don't use the bathroom for several hours beforehand.

What sucks is the IPN office is closed till monday. My case manager back till Wednesday.

I haven't been selected to test. I thought they were going to do a hair this week. I am afraid to hit self test. I have special panels that give me PEth randomly and regular drug screens. The normal test just has regular test with etg. Which I have problems tested false positive.

I don't want to cause more problems

I should of asked them to test me immediately. I will wait to talk to head clinical team when office is open.

If the contract specifically states that you need 6 consecutive negative urines for completion, and does not specify 6 months, is there a possibility they might not extend you? And does the 6 consecutive negative tests required after an abnormal include, or exclude, PeTH or hair?

Sorry this is happening. I have been there.

What a nightmare! I'm due to get out in next 3 months as well and had an abnormal 11/2. But a girl in my group had an abnormal back in October and they let her out with just a Peth test in January.

good luck!

You should be fine. Because mine is at the end its worse.

Gabby

Hi Gabby3 - I was just wondering if you would share what the test panel is for your PEth test? I randomly got selected for a blood test, but I have no idea why they would want a blood test unless indeed it's a PEth test. My test code for the blood test is O-792070. Thank you!

Yes, it is for PEth. I never had a problem with false positive for this test. I had a long history of false positive etg, never could find the cause. Supposedly PEth is more accurate and has less false positive(or innocent exposure)

I have heard of other IPN participants receiving this test if they had a dilute or abnormal urine. It can test for alcohol consumption/exposure for 3 weeks
