Dear All,
Looking into working in NSW and at present about to start the process of the skills assessment process.
However have been trying to find information on Pensions for Nurses in NSW. Does anyone know if I am right in thinking that like the NHS in england, nurses pay into a state/government pension scheme. If it is can anybody tell me what are the benefits like? and how much per week/month do nurses pay into it.What type of percentage does the nurse pay and what percentage does the employer/state/government pay.
Or is it a totally private pension system for each nurse to set up by themselves?
If anyone has any internet sites that can explain the system to me, this would be great.
Thanks for any help on this matter,
Regards
Ewol.

Look or rather google "Superannuation". It both is and is not a pension scheme.
Thank you for your kind help.
After some reading however, it has gave me more questions than answers!?!
I was wondering if amyone could tell me what Superannuation scheme nurses in NSW are in? Or are they all in different ones depending who they are employed by?
After reading the Public Sector Superannuation Scheme, this being a defined benefit scheme. Appears more like our NHS Pension scheme operated in the UK.
I also read that employees can choose which scheme they can enter. Does this include nurses and can they join the PSS Scheme?
I would be most gratefully for anymore help on this matter.

Currently the worker can choose whichever fund they want. Working for public health the fund would be First State Super in NSW. The funds for gov workers charge smaller fees than the private and industry funds. I chose to go with FSS for this reason.
Thanks for your reply.
Is the FSS a defined benefit fund? or do you just save with them and then you have to buy a retirement pension with whatever you have saved?
As you can probably tell this is very new to nurses from England as our system is a defined benefit scheme, so we Know at a very early stage what our pension will be.It just depends on how much you can pay in and length of service within the NHS.
Thank you for your help.

I was in the default one for my government hospital (HOST) but have since switched to HESTA as there are lower fees and better benefits.
