ok, so are we all like me when we have to be patients?
i had a rotator cuff repair a year ago january, and basically it froze after surgery, maybe i didnt do enough to move it properly post-op, because i was also told it was an open repair and badly damaged, so was afraid to damage the work that the surgeon had done. so now i am 4 weeks post-op after having another open revision of the rotator cuff, removal of the hardware and a superior labrum repair. so its 6 weeks passive movements only by physical therapists and then rotator cuff protocol. but i am demented by the foam block sling that has to be worn, even to sleep with it, and the frustation of only having one arm
how do you all cope when you are the recipient of health care?
i have been a patient myself twice. both times was when i delivered my kids. my second admission required a d and c due to retained placenta, since i'm a gynae nurse, the doctor that did it was one of the registrar that i know and our head consultant was waving at me giving me thumps up!:icon_roll
coming back to work is embarrasing! but i am gratefull they looked after me very well.
well base from my experience most patients who are nurses are nice..if they have more experience than you have they will teach you some stuff..but there is a but coming..patients who are student nurses or patients who have a student nurse relative are the pain in the orifice..they are the ones who are know-it-all..sometimes in my head i kept having this litany im a professional nurse and she's a student nurse..i have the urge to say it but...
We may be born with that yearning to be free of the hospital. When I was 7 I had my tonsils out and had to stay overnight. I woke up at 2am, crawled over the side rails, went to the bathroom, found my clothes and got dressed, made my bed and laid on top of it. When the nurse came I asked her to call my mother to take me home, I was fine and there was no reason for me to stay.
In real life I am just about the same. I will lie, cheat, and steal to get out. Hospitals are for patients, not nurses!

its now 12 weeks since my surgery and i am not as fit as a fiddle, but i am going back. i had a letter from them today telling me that the 12 weeks that my job was protected is now up, and if i extend my sick leave,,,after clearing it with my manager no less, then they might fill my position, and when i return i could apply for another position,,,if there is one, and if i dont reply to the letter and still stay off then they will presume that i am terminating the employment.
its because of this that i am returning to work, so much for the caring sharing attitude of my employers.
