Nurses are overpaid!

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I collect antique medical items such as old metal syringes, books, diagnostic equipment, etc. I also collect very old medical journals.

I just won this auction on ebay. It's a medical journal from the late 1800's where a doc is apparently complaining that nurses made too much money.

Question for staff... since this medical journal is well over 100 years old can I post the contents when I receive it?

I just had to laugh, they've been complaining about this for over 100 years. You'd think they'd have a clue by now.

Assuming staff are okay with my posting the article (can't be copyright issues now, can there??) is anyone interested? If folks aren't interested I don't want to take the time to copy/type.

I also won another auction for a medical journal where it said that OB nurses were "stupid" and needed more training. Well, perhaps if they would have taught them more than how to make "oatmeal" while in school, they would have been better prepared to deliver babies!

Some docs just don't get a lot smarter with time.

Bipley, forget typing! Buy yourself a scanner or go to the library or Kinko's. The software recognizes words and you just have to correct it. Much less typing.

Also, the copyright is definitely expired. I've read about some different organizations that are trying to digitize copyright-expired books. Now if we can just get a Mod's permission . . .

I've read that frequent masturbation is healthy for a man's prostate!!:clown:

It is, we just learned that in school. Heehee.

That's not vintage! That's antique. Vintage is 1940's, 1896 is antique!

Any great quotes from the book?

LOL... my mistake, I collect vintage and antique OB texts ;)

My books from the late 20s/early-mid 30s are my favorites. If I have time later I'll try to post a couple quotes. Good stuff :D

My scanner died and I just haven't taken the time to go and find a new one. Perhaps after I type this out it will remind me to go buy a new scanner! LOL

Well men....meet your new lady friend, her name is Rosy Palm. :rotfl:

I think the copyright is over too, btw.

As for myself, I have an old nursing textbook of my grandmothers. I can't wait to have time to actually look at it, and compare things after I learn the modern techniques. :chuckle

Sure will like to read please please post......

I'll part with my old medical stuff when they can pry it from my cold dead hands. :chuckle I've considered loaning it to a hospital (under glass) but that stuff is still stolen! Had it happen to an MD friend.

I was sooo angry, I gave one of my prize books to my niece. I just bought my own book from ebay!!! She had a 3rd party seller sell it for her. Guess who won't get to pry a bloody thing from my cold dead hands? The little brat...

As far as copyrights, I think as long as you cite the source you can post things, even if the copyright is still in place. It's not plagarizing, and you won't be making money off it.

If it were recent, citing it would not be enough to give permission to post it in its entirity. You'd still need written permission from the copyright holder for that. However, if a book was copyrighted before 1927 it was too old to have been grandfathered into the newer copyright extension law, and is part of public domain. This is why the Guttenberg project can work! BTW Bipley, you might want to consider contacting the folks at Guttenberg project and offering some of your old books (photocopies of them) for publication online! I'd bet they'd be pretty thrilled.

All my books with the exception of two are 1800s or earlier.

I don't know about the Guttenberg project, can you tell me more about it?

Ohhhh, the seller of my journals has MORE up for auction. I want them all. Not sure how I can justify MORE purchases! One is on the treatment of insane women... removing their ovaries.

Sadly, I'm the only one in this family with such a love for old medical books and assorted 'stuff' ... it's getting a bit out of hand. I have no less than 32 purchases from the last two weeks on ebay and most of those are old medical things.

A few years ago I called it a hobby. Then as the collection grew I called it a collection.

What comes after collection but before obsession? :p

What comes after collection but before obsession? :p

Would that be lust or would it be just short of insanity? :rotfl:
