Nurses' were JESUS' sidekicks...

For me our greatest Doctor is Jesus and of course we Nurses are His sidekicks. Just when I woke up before I go to the hospital to do my duty I always have this mind setting activity before leaving my house. I close my eyes for a few seconds take deep breath and exhale mightily. Then I face the mirror telling to myself this sentence ... "today's gonna be a great day for you ghieghie, everything is going to be great just as the Lord plan for you" for 3x then i end it with a sweet smile.

I had my duty at the maternity ward, that day I was about to attend a mom who's about to give birth to her first baby. That woman is wearing a long dress with a set of hair dress I don't know how to call that but I'm sure that's what a Muslim woman wears. She's running out of breath and out of strength due to the pain she's going through, she can't even talk clearly then suddenly ... she's shouting the baby's head is out so I call on the midwife and the doctor and she deliver an alive bouncing baby boy!!

The problem arise when the mother is in the recovery room. She's bleeding profusely and the doctor ordered for a pack of blood to be transfused to the mother to replaced the blood she lost. When we're about to lend her the consent for blood transfusion she refused to sign it,even how the doctor explains the importance of it,still she refused to. So the doctor made some alternative order to stop the bleeding and thank God it works for her..

At the end of the day I saw her and her baby in a very calm aura even though her vitals was not stable ... actually she even smiled to me like there's nothing wrong, then it makes me realize that there are some instances in this world that science can't explain to tell you the truth that woman is about to die i saw her,, how she runs out of blood and it's a burden for me to see her in that situation. So I just pray silently but deeply for her, we had a different faith but i know in that life and death situation it's only God that we can run to ... yes, God alone.

Where in the New Testament does it say that Jesus went to medical school? Perhaps that was in the 20-odd years that the multitudes of writers neglected to fabricate. Furthermore, the last time I checked we were autonomous professionals with a unique knowledge base and educational curriculum, not sidekicks to physicians.

This section of the forum really makes me second-guess becoming a nurse.

I'm not a "sidekick of Jesus" nurse any more than I'm "sidekick of James Bond" nurse, because neither of them are real IMO. And if it's difficult for you to deal with other religions and cultures than your own, that's something you need to work on. As a nurse you encounter patients from all walks of life and all parts of the world, you should be equipped to respect all people.

Well, you're right, there are some things that science can't explain. Yet. At one point, we thought the world was flat, the Earth was the center of the universe, bloodletting was standard of care, and smoking was good for you. Science eventually reveals the truth.

As far as that whole life and death situation and only having God to run to... well... I prefer 911. They actually answer. Shrug.

I respect your beliefs, I guess I just think people take their religious views way too far. Like, Jesus being our greatest doctor and somehow, nurses are his sidekicks. Well, what about me? I'm an Atheist. I don't know if that Jesus, who's practicing without a license btw, could have his sidekick be an Atheist. While the Apostles weren't perfect, they sure weren't Atheists. Why can't we just be nurses? Why do we have to bring God, Jesus, Allah, or even some sort of Atheist doctrine into it? We are nurses. We aren't Jesus' sidekicks. We are each other's sidekick. Black, white, Christian, Muslim, Atheist, Jewish, male, female, transgendered.. I don't really care what your faith is. In fact, I care less than that. Our jobs are to use science and evidenced based practice, two things the Bible and every religious text totally lack, to heal people. Let's stick to that.

Touche'.... even though I would still assist any pt. of mine in their spiritual beliefs, by getting a member of their congregation in order to ease them mentally....
