Nurses and Dream Specialty?

Nurses General Nursing

Any nurses working in their dream specialty? I know lots of nurses want to work acute care, mainly OB, neonatal ICU, Peds, ICU, and ER. For the nurses that are in their dream specialty, is it how you envisioned it would be?

Specializes in Pediatrics.

I am on my way to the dream job!

Because I worked as a tech in a ED I always thought I would never be happy anywhere else in nursing, possibly peds, but even then I wanted peds ED.

Applied to all the internship programs didn't get in, sadly the hospital I worked for decided NO NEW GRAD!

So long term care was where I went, dreaming of some place better.

So in desperation to get out of the LTC area I started applying to anything I could in a large health system, 220 applications for various positions before I heard back and got an interview for their LTC medically fragile childrens unit!!

I was hired into an oncall position, so I am still at my SNF/LTC, but so far I love it, I could see myself easly putting in 30 years, you can see the staff is there for the kids, I call it "My happy job" becasue for the most part everyone is so happy to be there, they are there because they want to be.

If I am unable to secure a full time position, I am hoping to take this expereince and transition into acute care peds position at my areas children hospital and keep my oncall status there. I could also see myself working in the NICU

Specializes in burn ICU, SICU, ER, Trauma Rapid Response.

Rapid Response nurse for a fairly large hospital. It's a blast. I usually have a lot of fun at work. I look forward to coming into work. Could easily see myself doing thif for a long time. It is fairly hard work, harder work than SICU or ER so I don't know if I will be able to do it for many years but it sure in fun for now.

It's one of those jobs that nursing students don't even know exsists.
