What does your hospital do for nurses for National Nurses Day? Ours essentially does nothing. The day is swallowed up by National Hospitals Week, and nothing is done especially for nurses. Also, they've taken away our cost of living raises. Nice, Huh?

If I recall there's some kind of a luncheon that few of us will actually be able to attend. They'll throw up some banners that we can look at as we get written up for whatever infraction of the day we broke because we worked short yet again.

That was what they used to do at the hospital where I worked. They'd post banners filled with photos of all of us and our names, ranks, and number of years' experience, then they'd host a fancy luncheon that in actuality only the managers and resource nurses could attend (while the rest of us were busting our buns taking care of patients). Oh, yeah, they'd let us go upstairs in shifts to pick up our complimentary carnations and a piece of cake left over from the luncheon..........egad, what a joke.:no:

Now I work for a company that doesn't recognize Nurses' Week at all, but treats me decently during the entire year. Gee, which do you think most nurses would choose given the chance?

in our hosp...the laziest and most dingbat nurse who has "strong connections " with management get big cash and nurse excellence award and pics taken on line and a couple of nursing magazine/ hosp newsletter....

as for food, the day shift get the most of it.... day staff come to work with traveling suitcase during the big celebration/free food days and takes the food home to feed their families and blah blah blah and pm staff who comes to work get a piece of carrot and some crumbs left on sticky and messy tables lwhich they leave for us to clean when we come in to work....:D nurses in our unit only take care of themselves and their pay check and thats it....:smokin::smokin::smokin:HAPPY NURSES WEEK EVERYONE.....

I agree. There is nothing better than getting "served" cake and soda at 0715, after your shift ends...and in the company of several "deer-in-headlights" suits :uhoh21::yeah::uhoh21: (not to mention shift change) checking their watches and making nice. It's a very biazzare ritual...they couldn't possibly be that disconnected could they? Cake & coke at the crack of dawn? Anybody?

When was Nurse's Day????? I worked all weekend, 12 hr. shifts and never saw anything.......No one mentioned it, we were too busy to go to the BR with being so short-staffed that we didn't even think about it.....it would have been nice to see a Starbucks coffee in the AM or something, tho....
