Nurse's Day Off

I'm curious as to what other RN's do on their days off between shifts..

I work 12 hour rotations and just finished my nights. For the first day or even 2, I basically spend the day vegging..watching movies, reading, napping and being antisocial. Day 2 or 3 I might make time for family and friends, workout at the gym and do some cleaning.

Does anyone else have a hard time coming to their senses after a few shifts in a row?

Yes, and that's why I work part time.

Nights take me a good 72 hours to recover from. Example say I finish at 07 on Sunday, I sleep till noon and try and get on track by hitting bed around 2330. Wake up around 0830 Monday and stumble through the day doing laundry and housework. Tuesday up around 09 and I'm just about ready to function.

No way could I be back on the floor today.

Rotating 12 hour shifts is not humanly possibly. There is NO way your circadian rhythm can adjust.

You are giving up your life to this ungodly schedule. Please get on a day or night rotation... and live a life outside of work.

I wouldn't work rotating shifts long term. You can never get your body adjusted to a schedule. Forget that.

I wish I could work only days but that's not possible at the hospital I work at now. So I accept it and manage as best I can.

I only flip halfway to save my body and my health. After my last night of work off I sleep until about 3PM when the kids get home from school. I then go back to bed at around 2 AM. I wake up at 10-11 AM on my days off so I get most of the day but am not a living zombie. The day before my first day of work I wake up at 10 and then try to nap from 2-4 PM. My kids are older and they let themselves in, see the do not disturb sign and know not to wake me up. It works out pretty well.

I think rotating shifts are really unhealthy and unsafe and I'm not sure why hospitals do that!! I am on a full night schedule.

I am shocked that no one admitted to stripping, prostitution, or watching Mediaography on their time off!

Just kidding. I am still very heated over the morality and nursing thread, with the OP convinced that nurses engage in immoral extracurricular activities during their days off,

Back on topic...

I keep a night shift schedule on my days off. Wake up around 15:00 or so and stay awake until 07:00.

I will try and see family/friends in the evening. At night I will read, watch TV, cook, go to Walmart (or some other store open 24hours), do housework, ect... I try to keep busy.

What thread is this? Can u send me the link?.I'm sure lots of nurses do all kinds of "extracurricular" activities on their time off that's none of anyone's business.. I don't know about how moral or immoral it is. I don't judge any of it...

"Of nursing, nudity, and public perception" is the title of the thread. Sorry for derailing the topic here, I was still really heated. I've calmed down now. I'm not sure how to paste the link from my iPad.

I just realized by saying "OP" that it seemed like I meant you. I apologize! I meant the OP of the other thread. Im sorry if that was confusing.
