Nurses in the Columbus, Oh area, Tell Me What You Think About This

My mother got me a job at her company working with MRDD patients in their homes and they (the direct care providers) have the responsibility of delegated nursing tasks. Sounds okay right? Check this out. They are UNLICENSED PERSONNEL WITH NO STNA (STATE TESTED NURSE ASSISTANTS) OR NURSING EDUCATION and they are allowed through the MRDD Board are ALLOWED TO PASS MEDS! Now, granted there are only maybe 2 people in the home but the risk is all the same. I am a GRADUATE PN and my mother is a provider with NO NURSING EDUCATION WHATSOEVER, and she asks me what something (meds) is for and I tell her what it is and what it is designed to do and the s.e. Now, you have to take a class that is 18 hours long to be able to pass meds; but here's the kicker, THEY ARE NOT INVOLVED WITH THE BOARD OF NURSING BUT IT IS STILL LEGAL FOR THEM TO DO SO because they have taken this class. I am leary of doing this eventhough it is legal. Please post your thoughts on this.:stone

This has been in place for a long time. They do have to go through a medicaiton course BUT having said that I do QI for a company that staffs MRDD and there a bunch of problems with them passing medications. A TON.

The agency can specify if there are meds they do not do such as no heaving injections.

Did you read where they are going to allow med techs in Ohio soon? I think I read that in the Board of Nursing newsletter here recently.

I think it depends on how the trial testing facilities do with the project.
