Danielle Ortiz was worried that she would not get the specialty of her choice, labor and delivery, when she finished up nursing classes at nursing school last May. But with the labor shortage for nurses in California so acute, she got her job and a $2,000 signing bonus.

California is my favorite place to live! :) I would gladly go back there and help them with their nursing shortage if I weren't a military spouse stationed with hubby in the southwest! Oh well, maybe one of these days....

haven't had time to read the article yet, but I will. I just have to say I don't like the title. It makes nurses sound like money grabbers. "Nurses cash in on shortage..." Like we're opportunistic gold-diggers taking unfair advantage... WE all know that's not the way it is but that's how the title of this article sounds...Like I said, though, I haven't read the article yet; hopefully it puts nurses in a better light than the title implies.

I read this a couple days ago. If I remember correctly their idea of cashing in on nursing was a $1000 or $2000 bonus. I thought HA.
