Nurse wants to live and work in Canada

Hi there

Im hoping someone could help me please.

I am a registered adult nurse living in the UK, and thus far have almost a years experience in the operating room environment. I am educated to Diploma level.

I am considering studying Midwifery next year, to firstly move in to a new and challenging area and secondly, complete a 18 month course and obtain a Bachelors in Midwifery.

I would like to live and work in Canada, but I am confused about the process, so I am hoping someone could clear this issue up for me. I have been looking this morning and apparently I would need to do a 9 month bridging course in midwifery to update my skills from England. Has anyone else done this - how did they find the level of education? How much did it cost? Were you offered work afterwards? How much experience did you have prior to starting the course? How did you go about applying? I find this process alittle too overwhelming :confused:

Also I have an uncle who has Canadian Citizenship, currently residing in the US. Would I be able to get sponsorship to speed up the process??

I'm an IEN (male) with 3 years of experience in Dialysys. I'm ready to file my Immigration papers soon. But trying to get TWP to speed up my process..Thanks for the reply.

Some jobs are opening up to the public, BUT they are usually small part time positions or in units that want experience.

Still a lot of Alberta grads unemployed as well.

You really need to contact the College of Nursing in the province you want to go to. You have to be made eligible to take the CRNE by the Province you're applying to. They all have very comprehensive website that will contain all the info you need.

Not all Provinces require a degree........yet. It may come to that but right now it's by no means all of them. You will have to research their websites to find out that info yourself. Midwifery is a growing specialty in many Canadian Provinces, so you may even find your midwifery a help, rather than a hindrance. However, again it's up to you to check out the various Provinces, decide where you would like to live (they are all very different) and take it from there.

It's not a complicated process at all. Just a lot of paperwork, Internet searching & a fair deal of time & money!!
