Nurse Tech Job

Nurses Job Hunt

Published

Hey everyone,

I know this is for new Nursing Jobs but I didn't know where else to post, please move if necessary. I'm going to find out if my local hospital has any nurse tech jobs available tomorrow. I'm entering in to my last semester the 19th of this month and I'd like to get a nurse tech job so that I may have a leg up in getting a job when I graduate. The only previous job experience I have is waitressing jobs at a couple of different restaurants. Please let me know if I need to compile a resume, what I need to take tomorrow, etc.

Thank you in advance!

I'd advice you to look for a nurse tech job while in nursing school because most managers hire RNs who were techs in their department.

Smart girl! You need a resume that is direct and outline very clearly your experiences and your interest in working in the healthcare field. Get your BLS if you don't have it and maybe your ACLS if you want to really stand out. You need to visit hospital websites and apply for tech jobs. Keep applying and don't give up. If you do not get a call back then you need to either re-evaluate your resume and/or follow up with human resource. Network with other nurses who may be able to refer you.

Thank you thank you, people like you on this site are lifesavers...haha, literally!

Well, just checked on getting my ACLS (I already have my BLS). There's really only one major hospital in my area that offers ACLS classes and the coordinator told me they won't allow nursing students to take the course. I'm a little aggravated about that but there's really not much I can do. I guess since this is the hospital I intend to apply for a nurse tech job at they can't really expect me to have my ACLS when they won't allow me to take the course. ?

What a bummer. There is a way around that. I only recommend this if you have extra time on your hands. You can take ACLS online via AHA. It is about 10 hours of study and there is no time limit that you have to complete it. It consist of modules, stimulation case studies and a pre and post test. Once Part 1 is complete you have 60 days to complete the skills testing in person at a local aha approved center. Once you pass the skills test you will be given your cert card. I completed my ACLS and PALS certification this way. You can read more about this here: ACLS, Online Training Courses | OnlineAHA.org

Oh good deal! So I can complete the entire thing online and get my certification? Thank you again for your help, you're great.

Waiting tables requires being able to balance competing demands, manage your time, and make people happy. All of these directly translate to success in any other customer service role, including being a nurse tech, or CNA. You should definitely get your BLS as that is often the minimum standard for being hired in the hospital environment. I wouldn't sweat getting the ACLS for the nurse tech position (techs and CNAs don't do much beyond compressions or being a runner in codes), however, it would be nice to have when applying for Nursing Jobs. I didn't get my ACLS (too busy working full time and going to school. . .never found a way to fit it in), but many of my classmates did in the last term of school, and it probably helped their resumes. Good luck! Being a hospital CNA/tech is a great way to gain experience!

If you really want to do your ACLS you can go through the American Red Cross or other outside agencies. It does cost, obviously, but it can't hurt. I'm planning to get mine this month.
