searching for best online program

I went to the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Al. Many different NP tracks to choose from. I did the FNP track. The FNP track is offered online as well as many others. I did most of my FNP preparation at the campus. The classes I did take online were not bad once you learn to navigate around the class/net. It's probably going to seem like a lot more work doing online. Regardless, it is going to be challenging either in the class or online. Here is the website. Email me if you have any questions.

Hello! I have currently been an RN for 4 years now and am either looking to go back to school and obtain my FNP. Can anyone please tell me of a good on-line program. OR, is it better to go to the actual school and do the program there?? I would appreciate any possible feedback. Also, can anyone tell me what the job good the job perspectives are after you obtain your FNP? Thank you!

You can try Stonybrook (its in NY- Part of the SUNY system). http://www.usb.edu I was in it, then I transferred out- wasn't for me (NP or distance learning). They have quite a few NP programs, including FNP. It's a state school, so it's reasonalbe (compared to private). You arrange your clinicals in your hometown.

The thing that I did not like about it was it was very much an independant study type of program, unless you pair up with people online. There are no online lectures, or required hours that you need to be online. You basically retrieve your lecture notes from the computer, and send in your assignments electronically. It depends on your learning style, whether or not it is for you. I went back to actual school, and am loving it.

I am in the Saint Louis University Adult NP program, and I love it. We have lectures and videos on line, seminars where we discuss the week's content, and various written assignments. We also take all exams on line and we have to arrange our own clinical experiences. When I looked for a program, I looked for (obviously) the program I was interested in, but also the length of time the school had offered on line learning (I hoped that most of the bugs would be worked out of the program if it had been in existence for a while!). There are all sorts of programs out there - I avoided ones whose sponsoring institution I had never heard of. Some I looked at were Vanderbilt University, Seton Hall, and Saint Louis University.

Hi,

I am looking at St. Louis University for an online program for the Adult NP. Did you have to arrange for all your preceptors or did they assist with this? I live in a community where it is going to be very difficult to get a preceptor because of the existing schools. I also want to make sure that the program graduates nurses who are comfortable with their role of NP. Have you talked to anyone that has graduated from there?

i am also looking for an online NP program. cannot afford to stop working while going to school. i have applied to 2 local school. one said that my GPA(3.2) was not competitive enough with against the applicants for the semester i applied for. besides, the schedule was unbelievable. one has to go to class at least 2 times a week. no evening classes no weekend classes. if you want to do full time then it is at least 4 days of classes. which meant that part time study was the only option at 2 days a week at that. otherwise the whole darn thing is 4 years guaranteed. the other one accepted me but the story is the same.....i hope they do not have a class limit since it is on line...unlike ground classes.

Did anyone go to ball state or goes to ball state. Is it a good program. No application deadlines. Do they have conferences via vedio, do they teach you or you teach yourself. From what the web site implied it is structured and you do the self teaching following a structure??? St louis sounds promising. Any feed back??

Most online programs have class size limits. Sorry to hear you're having a rough time of it. I was just accepted to University of Cincinnati FNP online. Reasonable time limit (2 yrs) and completely online. Try looking into it. I was assured it is a program that can be managed when working about 3/4 time-which is me. But I am hoping to be able to cut back at work by the time I start my clinicals. :)
