Hi everyone! I’m starting FNP school next month and my clinicals are 1.5 year away but I’m thinking I should start looking for a preceptor? I don’t want to stress out about that PLUS I don’t want to pay a fee. I mean a gift of a voluntary amount is reasonable but I don’t like to have to pay thousands of dollars for a preceptor that’s so unfair! Anyway, anyone have any tips? I’m only in contact with acute care NPs and that’s not an option. I’m thinking I can ask them if they know any FNPs to preceptor me. Other option is asking MDs but I rather work with FNP so it can be more specific. What other tips do you guys have? Thanks I’m advance!

Sounds like you already answered your own question.

Get in touch with your physicians that you work with. There's a good chance that physicians in the hospital do primary care. Even some specialty docs do primary care. Can't be picky when it comes to precepting with NPs vs docs. Take what you can get.

I found all my preceptors through networking. I had the first lined up before I started school because I was concerned that I was responsible for finding my own clinical rotations. Get in touch with as many people as you can. I never had to pay anyone and found my four preceptors independently. Good luck
