hi.. I am an RN located in Baguio City... people from here know how hard it is to land in a nursing job though there are a lot of hospitals to apply to... sadly, the truth is, if you do not have a "backer" in a hospital you want to apply to... chances are your application documents will stay at the bottom of the stack of unread application documents... being able to finish nursing school and passing the board exams in one take, I was quite frustrated as I cannot find a free volunteer or graduate nurse program here because of what was stated above, and also i wanted not to ask for financial allowances from my mother anymore... thus, paying for volunteer nursing work is out of my list... then i encountered some newspaper adds about medical transcription... anyone here have an idea about that?.. is it advisable for us RNs to shift into this career because of the overpopulation of nurses here in the philippines?... thanks a lot...:redbeathe:)

I see that no one has replied yet. I am wondering the same question? Right now in the USA medical transcription jobs are not as popular as they were few years ago. Today voice recoding/recognition systems do the job.

Medical transcriptionists are still used even with voice recognition technology. Maybe check with the school counsellor to find out what the hire rate is for the medical transcriptionist graduates before deciding to change your career.
