My Return to Nursing

Specialties Management

Specializes in Emergency Room.

I am an LPN 8 years prior experience ER and Clinics. I have been out of nursing for 12 years and recently reactivated my license and even completed a nurse re-entry clinical training at a local hospital. Problem being hospitals in my areas are no longer hiring LPN's except for maybe the ER. I left my last job on good terms and was a good employee. I have applied to 14 LPN positions with not one interview invitation with a nurse manager. I am at a loss as to why nurse managers are not willing to give me a chance. I have applied to emergency rooms, urgent care centers and clinics. I was hoping some managers could give me some insight and advice.

Specializes in DIALYSIS, ICU/CCU, ONCOLOGY, CORRECTIONS.

What area are you from, have you applied to any LTC facilities?

Specializes in Med-Surg, Trauma, Ortho, Neuro, Cardiac.

I know you don't want to hear LTC, but that's where the jobs and money are at right now here for LPNs. If that's true where you are, then that could be your ticket to the experience they are looking for.

Why aren't you given a chance? Perhaps the competition is better lots of LPNs clamoring for jobs? Who knows. Hang in there.

Good luck.

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

In my area, LPNs were used in ER but no longer. In fact no hospitals in my area even hire LPNs. You might want to get your foot back in the door with LTC or something along the lines of that. Good luck.

I appreciate the advice concerning the LTC's. I have given the LTC's some thought and have read many of the posts on allnurses regarding work at LTC's. There are many jobs available at LTC's here and they remain vacant for a reason, all of them being negative ones. I have no desire to work for those facilities. We are going to see a major crisis in geriatric care if those facilities don't clean up their act and make the working environment safe with realistic work loads for nurses and their residents.
