Hi everyone, I accepted a assistant nurse manager job about 3-4 weeks ago. I have not completed any paperwork for this job yet. My husband has recently been diagnosed with cancer and I think this is not the most opportune time to start new employment. I want to be here for him, as well I don't think I will be able to give 100% to the new company. Can anyone offer a subtle but immediate way to decline offer. I don't want to burn any bridges with this company because I know I will seek employment there again.

Just be honest and don't delay. I think just saying that you have an unexpected illness in your immediate family and you do not believe transitioning to a new company is right for your family right now. Let them know that you would be interested in the future but right now is just not the right time.

As a manager I would be disappointed but understanding. I cannot promise that you will not burn a bridge though. I am sure while they will be understanding it will still be an inconvenience for them since you accepted almost a month ago and I am assuming would be starting soon.

I am sorry to hear about your husband and I hope everything goes well for you in the future.

How unfortunate. Prayers and blessings to you. I agree with the above poster. Good luck.

Be honest and tell them you are unable to accept the position due to your husband's recent unexpected illness. They will be disappointed, but they will understand. Being able to be with your husband is more important right now, he will need your support and care. May God bless you and your husband through this journey.
