Nurse Entrepreneur Roll Call!

I own a private nutritional therapy and functional health practice. I've been in business for 2 1/2 years. Prior to that, I owned a health coaching practice for several years. I recently moved to California from Florida.

Thanks for the questions. I wouldn't define myself as an entrepreneur however, what I would like to be involved in is entrepreneurial in nature. I envision developing a network of knowledgeable folks who could act as RN advocates. The roles would be focused on independent advising versus being employed by an organization.

The goal would be supporting RN's in problem solving some of the tough areas such as bullying, improper practices, and whistle blowing to name a few. The way to accomplish something like this in my view would require a team/network of professionals willing to initially create this resource without pay. This project is vague thus questions and comments are welcomed.

I, an RN, owned a successful DME company, brought it successful, then sold it. Now, I contract (independently) to an accreditation company and team-lead on surveys. Travel is fun and interesting. I do independent other consulting on the side.

Through all aspects of business planning, implementation, legalities, contracts, etc, I go to my "big brother" a S.C.O.R.E mentor. I do the work, he guides and mentors me. I recommend SCORE highly. A free service and you get a team of expert consultants across the nation.

I'm thinking about doing exactly what your doing. Is it a good route? Does it pay better than being an RN in the hospital?

That sounds awesome! I love holistic and functional medicine! I hope the trend in people starting to lean more toward healthcare and not "sick care" continues.

I have begun to develop my own online nursing education business providing short courses for clinicians. I have only written a few short courses (1-2 hours) up until now, but will continue to add to the courses offered over the course of this year. I have about 70 courses that I have considered until now, although I hope to end up with about 100 courses, which will all be related to mental health care.

I'm starting a non-medical home care agency in June. I'm currently a nursing student in second year, and received a business grant for students to get me started. I also have a free office at the university for employee interviews and will be going to client homes to assess their needs.

I went to a lot of free business workshops, went through 5 months of vigorous research, and am well on my way to starting in a month and a half.

I am surprised by the lack of nurses who responded...I wonder if a lot of nurses shy away from business because they are truly not interested or because they don't have the support and/or know how.
