Nurse Enlisted Commissioning Program USAF

Published

Hello, I am in the Air Force. I recently applied to the 2010 Nurse Enlisted Commissioning Progam (NECP). I am waiting for the board results. Anyone else out there as anxious as me?

Thanks...that makes me feel alot better. I guess I got mixed up when reading all of this before (I have read the guidelines and FAQ's over and over again); I thought that the ROTC detachment part was the most important thing and what made the school eligible, besides the CCNE accreditation and the year-round part. Plus I thought that Univ. of South Florida was closer to Eglin than it is. You do make me feel better; I know there is the chance that I don't get picked up for NECP, but for something like the distance to the bedded facility (4 hours away), that would really be salt in the wound!

I too contacted Mr. B as I applied to a school not near a base or NTP site. I was also told that I didn't need any special permission. Over the past couple years, the guidelines have gone from "you must apply within 60 miles" to something more along the lines of "we'd really like it if you apply within 60 miles". I think that they've found that at a number of bases, schools or ROTC det's aren't really that close.

This is what I received verbatim from Mr. B regarding the location of CON and Summer starts:"You don't need my permission to apply a nursing school. You can apply to as many nursing schools as you would like as long as the school does not exceed the tuition cap. Sorry, we don't allow summer starts. Regardless of what the school, if it starts prior to Aug/Sep timeframe it is a summer start as far as we are concerned."

As far as the tuition cap goes, I wonder if the board took into consideration whether the cap would be exceeded based on in-state tuition versus out-of-state tuition? The school that I applied to currently has me as out-of-state (and over the cap) but will change me to in-state if I have military orders that station me in that state (the state being Florida). I hope they take that into consideration.... :uhoh3:

I am so nervous that I keep trying to find things that would potentially make me not get accepted so I can prepare for bad news in case it comes.... :crying2:

Kynchanted, take a look at this website. My buddy who also applied to NECP sent it to me. Once you get your orders to USF, you will definitely pay in-state tuition rate.Military Families Now Guaranteed In-State Tuition Blue Star Voices

Thanks! :)

So glad I found this website. Glad to know I am not the only one stressing. I have been in the military 7 yrs and I also submitted my package for NeCP. The wait is brutal. I was able to submit an unconditional letter of acceptance for the nursing school that I applied to. I applied to Wayland Baptist University in San Antonio. Has anyone heard anything, or has anyone's Commander been notified.

Hi tlloyd001 and welcome! :)

I haven't heard anything yet and my superintendent has been checking the commander's email inbox many times each day for me. I finally just decided to take leave on the 11th. Since I am overseas, if the results do actually come out on the 10th it will be at the end of the day over here so he agreed to tell me the very end of the day or call me at home on leave on Friday so I can be alone for awhile if the news isn't so good; it'll give me time to adjust and get over it before I have to face everyone at work since EVERYONE knows I am waiting to hear....

So I will probably be the last to know on here with us being 8 hours ahead of AFPC time and all.

I keep going over everything in my mind. Trying to prepare myself just in case I don't get accepted. I am on leave right now also so I keep calling my supervisor to see if he heard anything...nothing no word at all. I really just want to know already. My oreintation for nursing school starts on 16 Aug. They made an exception for me with the unconditional letter of acceptance since they were aware that I was submitting my package. I have a BS Degree from this school already, so they really did work for me. Its crazy cause they received their accred, just 1 week before I submitted my package. I read someone's post earlier when they said the Commander's should be notified on the 10th, I so hope that is true...I was told the same thing by my commander that there should be 50 slots available. My Chief sat on the board the very first time NECP met, she said there was not even enough applications for all the slots that they were trying to fill. I doubt it will be the same thing for this time around. Well I will continue to pray for all of us and hopeully all our hard work and efforts will pay off.

Its funny how many of us are on leave. I have been on leave since the 20th of last month and will be on leave until the 19th of this month. Only a couple more days and we should know the answer to the question we are all waiting for. I wish everyone the best of luck and I hope that all of us posting in here (plus I know one person who applied but isn't in this forum) will meet up in about 2 years at COT.

I will be on leave the 9th and 10th of this month as well :)

I will also be on leave on the 10th. Wow it's almost as if we planned it :-)LOL

I will be on leave from the 21-28 hopefully to be house hunting, if not, it will be vacation LOL good luck everyone the time is nearing...
