Welcome to the Nurse Educator Forum. It is my desire that you find this a warm, inviting place and will come here often for friendly, collegial discussions.
Let me introduce myself: I have been an ADN nurse educator in a small community college in North Carolina for the past two years. My areas of specialty are medical-surgical, OBGYN and immediate newborn, and cardiac nursing. In addition to teaching, I conduct clinicals on general medical-surgical, PEDS, postpartum, and cardiac step-down units. Along with being a full time nursing instructor, I am working on my Masters in Nursing Education. I am enrolled in a fully online curricula and have been very satisfied with this so far.
I have learned much these past two years but, I have so much more to learn! I look forward to hearing from you.
Hello! I am adjunct nursing facility for an ADN and BSN program in Arizona. I also coordinate nursing student placements (and all other students for that matter) for a Banner Health facility. I love working with students and I'm always interested in learning about new processes to enhance student learning.
I am trying to find a website/organization or any way to communicate with student coordinators in other states. I would love the opportunity to share processess for student placement as this is a big part of the experience the student has in the clinical setting. Thanks for any help you can provide!

Hello All!I am starting a brand new job next week! Yippee! Started out as a teacher a few (ahemm) years ago. Decided to try nursing, have my BSN, one class towards my MSN, and after several years of med/surg experience, 5 years of ICU, I will be the new nurse educator for med/surg at a local hospital. I do mean new - they haven't had unit educators before! I already know some of my job will be helping to develop policy and procedure, getting nurses up to par on competencies, etc. I'm really excited, and a little nervous. After next week or so, I fully expect this to change to "I'm rather excited and so nervous I can't stand my self" Any one have any advice on where to start??? :chair:
Hi there! I am also starting a job as M/S educator! My job will be to develop educational programs, oversee competencies, serve on Clinical Ladder committee, teach Basic arrythmia, develop the preceptors as a group, inservice on new equipment, and "other duties as assigned" Our ICU educator is very busy, and I'm sure I will be ,too.
My background is mostly tele, floor nursing & management- I have my MSN in nsg administration.,
How's it going for you?
Hi! I am the Director of Clinical Education at a small community hospital in PA. I have more things going on that I can handle! Is there anyone here who works in staff development? This is an extremely challenging field, with limited resources (like finances and education staff) that must meet not only educational needs but institutional needs as well. Right now, I need to re-vamp a prector/mentor program, and sell it to staff who feel overworked and do not want the extra burden of precepting. Which means we aren't keeping our new GNs long enough for them to make a difference to our staffing shortage. I just can't get them to see the connection! Any ideas?
How's it going w/your preceptor program? I so agree w/you that it's key to retention of new grads. I'm soon to be the M/S educator at a 200 bed hospital and I'm really interested in staff development-I also head up a "SuperUser" group who inservice others on the our clinical application system.
My name is Nancy and after 34yrs of practice I am teaching clinicals in a practical nurse program, and hope to go on and get Masters in Educational Nursing. I am loving it. I need to pick a program and having difficulty deciding. I also have a problem student who came from a BSN program which she was removed from after one year in program. So she entered our program at second semester. She doesn't seem to put it together as evidenced by care plan and the management of just one patient. Any suggestions?

i just want to get a piece of advice from you,i am newly appointed clinical instructor in one of private hospital here in Kuwait, our hospital has been runned by those nursing personnel considered have an obsolete nursing practice fell on the standard of care of nursing, and unfortunately management decided to go on accreditation but seemed that it requires alot of effort to change a customary practice. The documentation is really ridiculous and i cant imagine that it really happened. The clinical practice even the fundamental is fell on the wrong way.Would you mind to help and give some guide on how to manage this, furthermore ,my DON was given an task in making documentation policy do have any helpful website that would probably can help me to sort out this problem.
Thanks: Dereklance
I am 56 and have been teaching for 20 years, an RN for 35 years. I am wondering where all these nurses that want to teach will come from since our salaries many times are much less than can be earned in practice especially starting salaries for new nurse educators???? I am in a community college ADN program.
Hi, I am Julie. I am beginning a new career as a nursing educator at a small community college in west central IL. I have the broad knowledge base to teach as well as specialized in pediatrics. I am starting in the fall and I am working with my mentor to develop my lectures next week. :studyowl: I am looking forward to this opportunity both with excitement and apprehension. The fear of the unknown is what is making me apprehensive.
I have been an RN, BSN for 30 years and am almost done my MSN
I have been a clinical adjunct instructor for 5 years
I also work where I do clinicals, so it makes life easier or more difficult for me
Easy is because I have great resources to introduce the students to
To help make them true patient advocates
More difficult because occassionaly staff members will refuse students or be rude to them
I try to always be professional

Hi I am a brand new nursing instructor this semester and it's been very tough. Hours and hours of time is spent on writing lectures to give to students who just wont listen. Sometimes I think I may just like the punishment "thingy". Or my husband thinks so, to subject myself to these hours. The other teachers are constantly reassuring me that its always hard the first semster but its gets easier as you go.
