Welcome to the Nurse Educator Forum. It is my desire that you find this a warm, inviting place and will come here often for friendly, collegial discussions.

Let me introduce myself: I have been an ADN nurse educator in a small community college in North Carolina for the past two years. My areas of specialty are medical-surgical, OBGYN and immediate newborn, and cardiac nursing. In addition to teaching, I conduct clinicals on general medical-surgical, PEDS, postpartum, and cardiac step-down units. Along with being a full time nursing instructor, I am working on my Masters in Nursing Education. I am enrolled in a fully online curricula and have been very satisfied with this so far.

I have learned much these past two years but, I have so much more to learn! I look forward to hearing from you.

I am finishing up my MSN/ED for UOP. I have not done any classroom teaching but have taught two clinicals so far. Over the past 36 years I have worked with all students, LPNs and RNs. I have always enjoyed working with them.

I read your note on new educators and I appreciate your information. I will be helpful when I get to the classroom.

By the way, my name is Brenda. My specialty areas is Med/Surg, geriatrics, orthos, rehab, and skill nursing. I am really not into OB/GYN.

Congradulations on your degree. I completed my MSN with UOP last October. When I started there they didn't have the MSN/Ed tract yet and once it was developed I was too far into the program to start over. Good luck.

Hi, I've been a nurse since 1994, graduated with an ADN. Currently enrolled in an RN-MSN program which is mostly online, got A's in my first two courses. I did not get to go this summer. My major is Nurse Educator. I was a Math & Science teacher to high school students for 5 years before becoming a nurse. I currently have a BA in Mathematics. I have experience in psych for 7 years and 4 years as a rehab nurse. I look forward to teaching nursing. Any suggestions to get more ready for teaching?:balloons: :balloons: Hope to hear from y'all.

Hello everyone. I teach in an LPN program spring and fall. I love this job, but I have no credits toward a masters. There will be a FT position opening up soon, but another adjunct who has been there for alot less time than me is close to having her master's and will prob get the job. I have an 8 month old and may want another someday. The pay is good, but there are no benefits. Summers are scary, I pick up agency and time at a nursing home I work at, but like this summer, they hardly needed any time. I don't know whether to pursue another job full time or hang out and try to get full time someday. Anyone in similiar situations?

And if I can add another conundrum: I applied to the floor I teach at in the hospital rotation at their request. I wait two months in the summer while floundering for work, and get a call from the manager. She doesn't like my teaching organization and my interactions with my staff and students. I am very laid back and I know this. But, everything gets done and no one has ever complained like this and I have been doing this for 3 years. I told my director and we are going in to meet with this manager about the semester coming. My director said she never got any calls so this concerns her that they said this but coudln't pick a phone up to call her. She thinks this is a personality/unit politics issue. I don't care about not getting a job there, but I need to know what she is specifcally talking about. I asked her for input and thanked her for her words and told her I would use them to grow. I am not afraid to hear what she has to say, but I need to know what exactly she is talking about. Ideas?

just posted on your other "thread" i am not really sure how to use this site as effectively as i am sure it is. but i am learning. i put out a "thread," i think, but i am being asked to begin a lpn program at a local vocational school and am definitely looking for help. i've begun the feasibility study and have developed a curriculum. but don't really know where to go from there. i am very excited about this opportunity and am hoping i can find some really good resources here. and from what i see so far, this is definitely the place. wow - so many great nurses with so much experience, and all in one place. what a great idea!!!

I have just begun(or rather will begin August 1) my MSN program at UOP online. I have begun looking for a position as a clinical instructor, and I am very dismayed to find very very little out there.(atleast in eastern NC).

I have a BSN ('90) and also a BA-communications('85). I will keep looking until I find a community college that is hiring.

On a happier note, I have spent several hours on this site, and have found it very enriching, all the wisdom I was hoping to find in one neat corner of the web.
