Welcome to the Nurse Educator Forum. It is my desire that you find this a warm, inviting place and will come here often for friendly, collegial discussions.

Let me introduce myself: I have been an ADN nurse educator in a small community college in North Carolina for the past two years. My areas of specialty are medical-surgical, OBGYN and immediate newborn, and cardiac nursing. In addition to teaching, I conduct clinicals on general medical-surgical, PEDS, postpartum, and cardiac step-down units. Along with being a full time nursing instructor, I am working on my Masters in Nursing Education. I am enrolled in a fully online curricula and have been very satisfied with this so far.

I have learned much these past two years but, I have so much more to learn! I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello,

I have just begun(or rather will begin August 1) my MSN program at UOP online. I have begun looking for a position as a clinical instructor, and I am very dismayed to find very very little out there.(atleast in eastern NC).

I have a BSN ('90) and also a BA-communications('85). I will keep looking until I find a community college that is hiring.

On a happier note, I have spent several hours on this site, and have found it very enriching, all the wisdom I was hoping to find in one neat corner of the web.

Hi Bryan,

Welcome! I got my MSN from UoP Online. Challenging, lots of work but rewarding, and believe it or not, I actually DO miss school! You'll learn a lot. I have become a better nurse educator because of what I learned from online studies. I love the fact that I am good with PowerPoint that I can utilize when I teach.

LCPRNC

I am a not a nurse educator yet. I have always wanted to teach and received my MSN for that purpose. I am and have been a preceptor for students in all levels of nursing. With family responsibilities it took some time to complete my MSN ( online was not available), now positions n my areas advertise PHd preferred. I could provide instruction in many areas but med-surg. I have worked as a family nurse practitioner for 25y, with last job in perioperative nursing. Should I take a med-surg refreshers course and the professional nurse educators courses?

VickiRN, may I ask what program you are attending for the MSN in education?

I attended East Carolina University MSN-Nursing Education program and graduated a little over a year ago. I highly recommend the program and it is totally online :)

Hi,

I am new to this forum and I enjoyed each posting that I have read since finding the forum. I am starting a position as an adjunct faculty in October 2006 at one of the colleges in my area. I am hopeful that this will be an excellent opportunity for me to share my clinical knowledge with future nurses.

My experience is in critical care, home health and cardiac rehab.

Hi All,

I am new in the nursing education/staff development field after 20 years in critical care. I am now in a LTC/Rehab facility in upstate New York. We have a unique population consisting of a 30 bed pediatric unit, an adult/traumatic brain injury unit, a small vent unit, and a short term rehab unit. I find it very trying and tiring at times especially when the staff goes back to doing the same things after an inservice on how not to do things. I feel like I'm runnning into a headwall at least once a week. It drives me crazy. I have told my DON that this is the hardest job I have ever had. A train wreck in ICU is easier than this, but surprisingly I love the job despite my moaning and groaning. Anyone else feel like this? If you have suggestions on how to get staff to work as a TEAM and how to get the RNs to take a more active role in patient care (especially the off shifts), I am ready to listen.

Thanks:monkeydance:
