Good for you!:roll

I would suggest that you finish the pre-regs and also go to a nurse aide course and work in the field. This could prepare you for nursing and give invaluable experience. You will learn actual hands on experience and will have the opportunity to work with nurses. They will often mentor you. In the southern states I am told nursing students must be nurse aides first. Since I teach nurse aides I think this would help improve the quality of nurses that we graduate and they would be more comfortable in the clinical setting.

Thanks for the suggestions, but i have been a Nurses Aide for almost a year now, here in Pennsylvania you don't have to be a nurse aide first but when i ultimately decided to go into nursing i just did not want to jump right into school not knowing if this field was for me or if i was cut out for the type f work in health care, but alas i found what i am good at. I am going to be finished with the pre req's this summer so when fall comes i can concentrate on my nursing courses only.

By the way for the educators--- What should i expect in Nursing 1. I have asked students on other forums, but i think you guys may know a little more since you teach it and all, i know every place is different but there has to be a general idea i guess you would say about what students learn int he first year, thanks in advance

Every curriculum is different, but probably your first course will focus on basic nursing skills, professionalism, nursing process etc. There is often a geriatric clinical early on. Much of this will seem like nurse aide skills to you, but there will be some new content as well.

:monkeydance: Just a bit of advice, do things the way your new instructors tell you, not the way you've been doing it at your job. There are many ways to do something right, and there is only time to teach one way while in the nursing lab. Try to not display a 'know it all attitude', rather demonstrate a willingness to learn a new techniques and the rational behind them.

Even though i have been a CNA for a while, when i go into nursing school i am going in like i dont know anything, like i was never a CNA and i defintley am not going to question how the instructors show me and the rest of the group something, wether i think the way i did it at work or in CNA training was better, or faster, im not like that. Im going in with a clean slate ready to learn.

we are legally required to admit a certain number of qualified students. we do have students who are on an alternate list.

[color=#483d8b]i have noted that "qualified students" usually apply to several nursing programs. therefore there will be those qs who turn down their slots at our school because they have accepted admissions else where. as stated in previous posts, alternates from #1 - 5 have the better chances of being admitted.

I am in an advanced degree program working on an MSN in nursing education. I am 3 classes away from completion. In my current class I need to write a contract for myself that would include what my responsibilites would be, what the employers would be, pay scale and benefits, and terms of separation. Does anyone out there have some sample contracts they can attach to an email to me???
