Hi everyone,
I am an NP working at a NY facility with a score of 19, which is tier 1. My loans each month are CRAZY (about $1500), so even though my debt:income score isn't as high as some (it's about 120%), this would be life changing for me!
I was just hoping to get some general advice/thoughts from everyone during this very painful waiting process. I've heard that if you do get the award you generally find out in July/August, otherwise rejections mainly come around October.
Has anyone else been in my shoes, with a similar facility score and debt/income score, with any words of wisdom? I'm nervous and thought it would just be nice to chat with other people who are going through the same thing, or who have been through it!
Lastly, for the folks who have gotten this before, what ways do you utilize it? Do you use it to make your minimum monthly payments and try to save, or do you make 1.5 x your regular payments? Pay off private loans first?
Just thought it would be nice to get a convo going this application cycle!
Sarah :)
How much time did those of you get to respond to the email when you were notified of being a finalist?
I was sent an email on July 31 at 6:30pm stating I had an update that was time sensitive and I had until 8/3 to respond. As it turns out, it was to tell me I was a finalist and I had to tell them if I was going to accept the award. I was on vacation (and didn't know to be checking email or that I would have such a short time to respond) and didn't see the notice until 8/5. I was physically sick. When I called they said there was nothing I could do, but that they usually give 5 business days. Since my notice went out over the weekend, I asked her to notify the committee that I didn't get 5 BUSINESS days.
By some miracle, they sent back my COI yesterday and I was able to accept the award! I am so grateful and thankful. But curious how much time everyone else received to respond. When I called today to thank them for helping me last week, the guy said that they would review my application for errors (which they usually don't find) and I will change from applicant to participant in a couple weeks. \
Good luck to all of those waiting to hear. This is the second year I applied - I'm a nurse practitioner and was in Tier 1.
I never got a straight answer. After I emailed someone a few times, he said he would escalate it and see what happened, but it would take 3-5 business days. Being the patient person that I am, I called Friday afternoon and asked about it. The lady put me on hold while she "tried to research whoever signed it", which also got me no answer. But then my congrats email came thru about an hour later. So who knows?

I got the finalist e-mail July 14th and signed the same day. The cosign was on Aug 6th. Just wondering if anyone else had this happen, a delay like this. Don't wanna get my hopes up!
