2017 Nurse Corps Loan Repayment Program

Hi Fellow Nurses!

Is anyone else anxiously awaiting the 2017 cycle opening?

I have applied several times and praying that 2017 is my year. I'm tier 1 - not faculty and not an NP.

Is anyone else out there?

I received my finalist letter on sept 5 but never got countersigned. I even called yesterday before I got the denial and the rep said it's a good sign if you're in that stage :( so disappointed. Do you think it would be overboard to call and check with them Monday and just make sure it wasn't an error?

It may not do you any good at this point, but I think I would if I were you. Sorry to hear that!!

Does anyone know if you get most of what is paid in in taxes back at tax time? I was just wandering how that would work.

Wow...That's not how taxes work. You are in bracket based off income. This is considered income. Check out 2017 tax brackets and 2018 estimated tax brackets to get an idea of how much taxes you should be paying...not including deductions. Essentially when you get money back from a tax return you just let the government borrow your own money interest free.

I'm not stupid, you didn't have to say wow!!! I asked a simple question.

Never said you were. Congrats on your award.

Anyone who has been awarded present or in the past know the best way to disburse $ to multiple loans private and dept of ed. to get the "best bang for buck." Nurse Corps LRP. Called site analyst and they said they are not allowed to give any advice just that you can't use to pay state tax, which was strange....well duh lol Thanks in advance

Would say shoot for highest interest rate loans first to start. Private loans first then public.

sorry to hear that, I also have a friend that was a finalist and got his letter on sept 6, but did not get the award also. I felt guilty when I was cheering on him, telling him that he will most likely get it as like RN4KU stated i have been reading forums and never seen a finalist not being awarded, I guess they changed this time and became hard now to get the award.

Hi All,

Emailed Nurse Corps LRP to get further details on why I was not accepted. Thought this info might be helpful - someone posted similar info about last year's cycle and it was helpful for me!

Funding depleted as of the following for 2017:

Nurse Faculty 29.42%, Funding Tiers 1 - 3

Nurse Practitioners 116.8%, Funding Tier 1

Register Nurses (DSH /Public Hospitals) 184.3%, Funding Tier 1

Register Nurses (All Other CSFs) 131.5%, Funding Tier 1

That's not really helpful for me but hopefully applies to others. I'm an NP at a Tier 1 facility with DTI 138%, HIPSA score of 17 - also considered a "critical access" facility in addition to the HIPSA. I was denied. I really don't understand why as I saw another NP on this thread with slightly more debt but made about 5K more than me at a HIPSA score of 16.... not sure why one was awarded and one was not but it's the government so goodness only knows! Congratulations to those of you who were awarded. I guess I'll try again next year.

HospitalistNP are you from Illinois by chance?
