Hi Fellow Nurses!

Is anyone else anxiously awaiting the 2017 cycle opening?

I have applied several times and praying that 2017 is my year. I'm tier 1 - not faculty and not an NP.

Is anyone else out there?

I was under the impression that after taxes, you were basically getting 40% of your loan amount paid.

Little off. U are getting 60-70% of the loan award after taxes.

100k award over 2 years will see $60-75k.

I know someone who has it and that is what she told me. of the 60%, you will basically get 40% after taxes

Sounds like you are saying 40% of the 65% loan amount.

I think we are saying the same thing. By tax day you'll end paying where ever you fall in the tax bracket. The more salary u bring in the high that number is assuming you have minimal deductions.

How you're saying it is very confusing. I've already received my welcome letter and award worksheet. The initial loan amount is 60%. They take out ~20% in taxes; however, it may be a little bit more pending your debt because it's based on tax brackets but most receive ~40% of loan repayment.

Ok, this morning at work our CEO announced that there is "a problem" with our HRSA funding. We are now asking patients to sign letters to send to congress. Her message did not state exactly what the "problem" was. But this is what some of us had assumed already. That this year has taken so long because HRSA is making sure they can cover the awards given. Have you guys heard of anything like this at your FQHCs?

I'm not sure I understand how this relates to loan repayment. Why would patients sending letters to HRSA determine nursing loan repayment? HRSA funds tons of other programs. Maybe your company is referring to one of the other programs.

I do have a question. When I got my award email, to be honest when I logged on the portal, I didn't read everything I was just so excited that I just put in my banking info and signed my contract. I do remember seeing an amount of $58,xxx I have about 64k in loans plus 2k in Perkins loans. Does the $58k mean that's all that qualified for the loan repayment? They are all federal loans through Nelnet...? I wish I'd have read closer but I was just so excited

I thought we all worked for FQHCs? But not funding for NurseCorps specifically cut for HRSA. FQHCs are funded under the umbrella of HRSA. HRSA dictates our health measures because we receive so much of our funding from them. Our CEO was stating that the projected budget for HRSA (meaning: FQHCs, HRSA and NurseCorps scholarships and loan repayments included) is looking to be cut. If our facility budget is cut, our site would close. Therefore, our CEO has implemented letters for our patients to sign and send to the government. However, I'm thinking that whatever information our CEO has is not good. Which would also translate to us. Maybe that is why this years process has been so different than previous years.

Have any RN's been awarded in the past few days for the Nurse Corp program? I have not seen too many awards going out any more. I am and RN, HPSA 17, D/I 160% .

No. I don't think everyone is especially those of us who are nursing faculty. The budget this year has already been set. The budget from my understanding is always set the prior year. I can definitely see how this relates to future funding because the new proposed budget does indicate cuts to HRSA. They've definitely been slow this year but it has picked up quite bit (esp. at the end of August).

I certainly hope your clinic isn't closed and you're awarded.

Is there any chance of not getting the final award after getting to the final review stage??? And when will the first payment start?
