Hello All,
I am applying for the nurse corps loan repayment program 2016 cycle, I just spoke to a representative who told me the application cycle opens up tomorrow. For those of you who have applied any tips advice etc.? I am very excited about this opportunity because I have an outrageous amount of loans.
I don't think so either as not a single person on here has been notified. Which I find hard to believe
I tend to lean more toward a very small percentage of actual applicants don't even know this forum exists, hence not many replies would be posted here.
Furthermore, my coworker friend whom is a psychologist and has applied to the NHSC, which is geared toward physicians, NPs, PAs, psychologists, dentists, social workers, and a few other provider disciplines has already been notified and accepted the award as of 1 month ago.
Both the NHSC and NLRP are both administered through HRSA and I would assume both award programs have begun to notify awardees especially if the NHSC deadline was 1 month following the NLRP and the NHSC has started awarding. It's only logical.
Finally, the wait is exhausting...
Last time I spoke to a representative he seemed VERY knowledgeable. He said that NHSC awards are always first and that Nurse Corp awards aren't typically distributed until late July. I have a very high DTI and a relatively high site score of 18. I also work at an FQHC for the Homeless as a primary care provider, and I have heard nothing. I truly hope that they don't run out of funds before they reach DTI of 210%! The likelihood of no one in this forum receiving the award is very slim. I am holding onto the hope that Nurse Corps has not started to distribute yet.
I'm an NP. My clinic administrator said that, in our FQHC, mental health providers and more likely to get NHSC funding than are medical or dentistry. We have also not had much luck with nurse corps apparently.
If I don't get loan repayment this year I'm not sure of what I'll do. They really advertise and push federal money for underserved in terms of recruiting, but the reality is that there isn't much money to go around at any level. I would caution future providers and students against banking on an even moderate chance of securing federal money for loan repayment.

Just got off the phone with a representative who said they have already started handing out award notifications. I haven't seen a 2016 post with anyone saying they received an award yet. My status still says under review.
