So, I applied for Howard Community College's Fall 2010 evening/weekend program and assumed I would be waitlisted but secretly hoped and hoped I would get in. I ended up being waitlisted, but was given a number of 7. Recently, I was told that I am now number ONE on the waitlist! So, I am getting super excited about the possibility that I will get in this fall, but at the same time, there is a big chance I won't. It is so hard not to get my hopes up. So I have a whole month for one person to decide to not start the program for whatever reason, or for one of the 6 people ahead of me to decline their seats in the program. My advisor told me the six people ahead of me have until next week to decide. This not knowing is just driving me nuts! They say they will let people into the program off of the waitlist if a seat opens up until one day before classes start! Then I would be a mad rush to get uniforms, supplies, books, immunizations, etc. I suppose I should not complain because at least there is a chance I might slip in.
I guess I just needed to vent and let some of my excitement/frustrations out!
Thanks so much for all of the advice and words of encouragement guys! I think everyone here is on the right track and I should really start handling all of these requirements now in case I do get in. If I don't, it won't hurt me to have those things done. But if I do get in, I will have made it that much easier on myself. I will probably start looking into how to get the immunizations checks first and at least sign up for the CPR class for an upcoming weekend.
I want to start this Fall sooo bad so I just really hope this works out and I get in! But if not, I will try to be patient and wait my turn for the following year. Thanks again guys!
You're number one right now with a month to go before classes start? You may as well assume you ARE going to be in the program for the Fall semester. The school I attend only admits 30 people a semester, and I just ran into a girl who was 5th on the waitlist, and she now has a seat in the class.

I am in the same position. I was wait listed for my school and just as I started to think it may not happen for this fall I find out I'm not number one on the list. Like others have told you, do everything you can do now so that if you do get in it's not a mad dash to dot your i's and cross your t's.

Gosh...I hope that is me in the next few days!! lol I want to keep calling but I am afraid I am going to annoy them.
I was number 2 on the waiting list for my school. I called them every day (of course I don't recommend this because they find it a little annoying).
lol! You are right, I am so tempted to keep calling. The problem is they never answer so I would have to keep leaving new messages. ahhh, trying to be patient is no fun!!
Still nothing!! I've called and I only get the answering machine. I also sent an e-mail and they said they replied and told me they did not have any new information but that they would be hoping to contact students if any seats open up by the end of this week. So, hopefully I will get a call soon! Thanks for checking! It is soo hard not to get excited but I am hanging in there!
I'm sure you'll get in! There are always last minute drop outs of any program due to financial issues (kind of mean, I guess, but it's true). I'm sure you'll get in! *sends good vibes*
