Hey you can actually format the individual sections to double space as you type. It's just a matter of adjusting it in Word.....

Mod 3 complete! Always feels good to get another week done. I didn't think the quiz was so bad. Michellemybell suggested reviewing the Test Yourself quiz questions, this is very useful advice for those who may not have taken it yet. Also I think some of the questions are basically common sense questions. You all can do it!

Week 4, almost the LAST week, just ahead.

Oh C!@P, reading from week one to 3 !

I guess I better go back over the old stuff. I sure wish they would make it clear, if you hadn't shared this, I wouldn't have known.

I got points off on the formatting of my reference for the assignment. But it was a formatting issue with the document. No matter how many times I tried to indent and double space, it wouldn't stay that way. I finally gave up.

congrats to you all who got 100%, at least I'm in good company- maybe something will rub off on to me.

Cincinursemary: I had a zoo formatting my apa papers (hate apa hate apa hateapa) until I got PERRLA. SInce then my APA cites have gotten better -I still lost half a point because I didn't use it and accidentally typed out "page" instead of "p" (lost 0.5 points!). I still also double check my PERRLA first page - carefully, as in line by line on the first page and practically use a physical ruler in addition to the WORD top and side ruler to make sure my title page is perfect etc. I hate APA. I hate APA. I feel it a little strange that we use a social science format and the MDs use the science format. So here we are all through high school taught to use the MLA format, and the MDs get to use the same MLA format, but we nurses have to use another format - a psychology format. Then we have to use the nursing diagnosis - none of which we use in real life because the MDs will not respect a nurse who cannot speak in medical terms. Ugh, when will school catch up with reality?

You can tell I am on this soap box because I lost points for a paper I really really worked hard on to lose points for the APA. I still got an "a" but tht's not my point. ugh. I hate APA because I feel like it is a step down from hard science to social science.

So then here we are taking classes in nursing where we are researching papers with topics such as problems on communcation between MDs and nurses - well I submit to you - this is one the reasons, nurses use APA, and MDs use MLA. I hate APA. I am not trying to be an MD but it would be nice to have a sort of standardized language format. Oh well. I feel better now.

But then, I guess we nurses are the ones who care. Well if anyone has taken any of the latest tests being used to hire nurses, you know that they do not in any way look for nursing diagnosis - they are looking for flat medical terminology, diagnosis, assessment of the patient and the medical interventions necessary to address the complaints. I am really on a soapbox today. Please bear with me. I will calm down soon.

I got dinged on the assignment too because they say that there should have been a citation/reference in one of my paragraphs. Thing is, the information for that particular paragraph wasn't taken from any book, just from my own knowledge. So how do I cite the knowledge in my brain??????

I've read from others on here that the DB post is easy and that the quiz is hard. I have been completely bogged down this week and have not done any of the work yet. Today I will be playing school and getting everything done.

A lot of the stuff was straight from my brain - so I sent the TA an email and asked/told her that most of the stuff that I did not cite, it was straight from my brain and I wanted her to know that I did not plagiarize by not citing cites. She did not take off for any cites I didn't cite, but then I did use like about 6-8 or more cites anyway for that discussion

Cincinnursemary, try this: at the end of the last sentence before you need to indent for a new paragraph, hard ENTER. Your new paragraph should automatically start indented whether you like it or not if you have PERRLA. I fyou don't have PERRLA, your hard ENTER at the end of the last line should allow your new paragraph to be indented manually.

I had 2 surveys in my Ohio edu mail. I made a special point to point out how much over emphasis they give to APA formatting. I could spend 2 days on preparing a paper and get points off for a stupid little APA mistake, like a comma instead of a period.

that doesn't make sense to me.

I also said that if they want disucssion boards to be more useful for students to have actual discussions on, they shoud do away with the APA fomat requirements for them.

No one will probably listen.

So for anybody who has started the paper......did you get ALL of the topics into 5 pages???? Really!?!?

You started the paper already!?

I don't even have the person I'm going to interview picked out yet. I am going to change the culture b/c the one I was going to do, no one speaks English, and I don't want to do this through an interpreter.

I didn't do great on the quiz.... passed it but not great.

rninme: Thanks for the encouragement.

Yes I wanted to get started because I have some things coming up and I'm not the fastest when it comes to papers. Keep this as simple as possible for yourself! It has taken me longer than I thought....plus they added in the census stuff too.....so a little extra research. It will be EASY to get 5 pages. I looked ahead in the beginning of this class and did my interview a few weeks ago when my "interviewee" was at my house. I have a headache now.....Stay positive....you passed!!!!!
