NPs- USI or EKU for PMHNP??

Published

Hello NPs, I am looking at both USI and EKU for PMHNP program. I will be a post MSN student so it will be post grad certificate.

Both programs look equal as far as required credits. I will be student loan funded, USI says they can add credits as needed, EKU only says 'federal student aid for most semesters'.

I am looking for opinions as far as which program is more supportive, which one is more tailored for a student who is also working full time, is a full time mom, wife, high school coach? I know i'm crazy busy but I really want to pursue this.

I appreciate any help, insight or opinions.

I attended USI as an FNP student and can tell you now that it was crazy! We did most classes with the PMHNP students until clinical-specific classes. The professors are somewhat supportive depending on how you define supportive. However, if i were to do it again, i would choose another school. A school where you start with 120 students and only graduate 40 or less..i don't know..but i won't recommend them. Good luck!

These stats speak volumes as to why it is so important to self-fund as much as possible.

Title IV graduate student loans are too expensive. If you elect to use them exclusively, you need to know that paying them off over a ten year period will essentially act as an onorous tax on your future income.

If your goal is to increase your earning power the loans will ensure that this may be difficult.

You sound like a mature purveyor of educational possibilities, so vanity play aside, only you know if the ROI is worth it.

I attended EKU for my BSN back in the early 2000's (and have applied to their FNP program also). I am a native Kentuckian and I LOVED it there. They were very supportive and our entire class had a 100% passing rate on the NCLEX. I cant speak for their online NP programs (I attended brick and mortar for my BSN), but I can tell you that I had a fantastic experience there as a young man undergrad and I am hoping I get accepted to their FNP. I've read some very negative reviews about USI on this forum so do your research.
