Hi I am a RN in the state of Georgia. I have a Masters of Public Health (2011) and ADN (2014). I currently work in a SNF (Skilled Nursing Facility) as an Assistant Director of Nursing. I am currently applying to online NP schools for Adult Gerontology Primary Care. I have researched so much to the point of frustration. I just wanted to reach out to ask NPs who have completed their programs to find out are there any schools that set up preceptors. I live in Georgia and would prefer something online. I have also looked into schools in Alabama. I am becoming so discouraged on attending NP school from reading the horror stories on having to find preceptors.

With your position as ADON, do you have some connections with the docs and/or NPs there that you could ask about precepting you? Would be helpful and much less stressful for you getting started in a program knowing you already have someone to help you out. Most potential preceptors are much more likely to agree to precept if they already have a working relationship with you.

I attend the University of South Carolina. They do have a coordinator now that helps with setting up clinical sites. I haven't interacted with her, as I found all of mine and had them laid out before she was hired on. I've heard good things though. I'm not sure if that's a school that would be feasible for you or not. I have really enjoyed the program, and have one semester to go after I finish this one.

I just started working at this particular facility so I haven't formed relationships quite yet. But I did develop some at my previous job as ADON and I will look into those I met there.

I go to Texas Woman's University. The program is not online, but they do find us preceptors, although I have found all of mine so far. I agree that the best way is to use docs that you know, because you will also know what kind do of docs they are, and whether you would like to learn from them or not (given a choice).
