I work in an outpatient private specialty clinic. I love my regular hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays off, the continuity of care, my salary, and the autonomy. It may not be as exciting as working in the ER, but at this stage of the game, I don't need excitement. If you have a job you enjoy, you're not missing out on anything.

I do get to work mostly autonomously in the ER, although it is nice to have an on staff physician just in case I doubt myself or just generally can't wrap my head around something. But boy would some daylight hours be nice, I feel like I've become a vampire!! Haha!! But my salary at this point suits the needs of myself and my family of 3 wonderfully. Just gets tedious having my skills questioned by patients on a regular basis based on my age!!
I did an ACNP program and did one of my clinical rotations in the ER. I loved it so much, it made me wish I had done an FNP program. BTW, I wish I had a night position! I hate getting up in the mornings.[/quote']I LOVE the night shift, I get off at 6 am, come home and take my kid to school, sleep while he's there, then I get to enjoy the evenings with him and my husband and then go to work after he goes to bed.

I'm a new nurse practitioner working night shift in an emergency room, I'm just curious if I am missing anything by not working in a doctors office?
