NP course work - as a non degree student

Could you all please recommend where I could take 1/2 core classes (pathophysiology, pharmacology) for NPs that are not that rigorous and cheap. Preferably online, and that does not take much time to complete.

Thanks for all your suggestions.

Specializes in Vents, Telemetry, Home Care, Home infusion.

Per Cambridge dictionary rigorous means:

  • careful
  • thorough
  • meticulous
  • methodical

Nurse Practitioners need to fully understand pathophysiology + pharmacology to be effective practitioners requiring rigorous understanding of the material.  Thusly, our NP members get upset when newbies request info on the easiest and cheapest courses.

Use the search bar at the top to see previous posts on these topics: "Advanced Pathophysiology course"   "Advanced  pharmacology course"  several available.

Thanks, I understand the course work is rigorous and I OK with it. I was just looking for some recent input if anyone has any ideas. That's it!

Specializes in New Critical care NP, Critical care, Med-surg, LTC.

If you're looking for coursework for credit you might check out your local state university programs. If you're just looking for the information without credit, there are TONS of free online resources with really good pathophysiology/pharmacology lectures. Ninja nerd science has some excellent ones, medgeeks isn't free but often has discounted coursework, depending on what you're looking for.

Are there any established organizations that you could suggest that could offer a certificate of completion for these types of courses? Thanks!

Excelsior college  N505 and N506 has both masters courses listed as online.

You need to inquire of NP Program you desire to attend what online course certificates they will accept as wasting time/monies if they won't accept.

Thanks for the suggestion. Any other places, like an open course platform also. like edX, etc?

Specializes in oncology.

It would help if you provided your goal for taking these courses.

To transfer the course into a NP Program later on. Costs, etc looking doing this as well.

Only the NP Program you desire to attend can tell you which outside facilities courses they will accept; otherwise would be wasting your time and monies if they won't accept courses---- a hard lesson many AN members have lamented about here.

Do you have any recommnedations, such as different online platforms that would cover what is covered in pharmacology that I could look into, and then take the next steps?

Thanks!

I wondered if there was any one that knows if there are nursing programs that offer pathophysiology less indepth for Nursing Education grad students since we are not trying to know it as deeply as NP's need to know it.
