Ok, so I'm a nursing student, haven't had surgery, but somehow found my self in the ER for the last 2 nights with morphine for excruciating abdomen, back and jaw pain...CT with contrast showed distended bowel suggestive to ileus. All other blood work along with heart test, (stress test and enzymes) they also feared something with the heart, but anyway everything checked out ok. So, now what do i do? I have clinicals tomorrow! I can't miss! How do I help myself? I still haven't had a bowel movement, and have Hypoactive bowel sounds. Pls I don't wanna fail out because I'm sick...pls someone help with advice, cant get into GI until end of next week!

Well, TOS says no medical advice is permitted here.
Do what the ER docs told you. If too uncomfortable get your GP to issue a sick note.
Most ileus do resolve themselves, so wait it out.
wasn't trying to violate TOS..just don't even know how i got ileus. maybe late nite studying and not eating properly.. IDK, I've just not been able to find a diet that is good for ileus, just didnt know where else to turn...moderator may delete my account if he so chooses, sorry if i offended.

You certainly don't offend us. However, we do have our terms of service against medical advice to protect you. All we could provide would be guesses and your health is too important for us to provide you with guesses. Please call your provider! Take care and I hope you feel better soon.

You need to take care of yourself first. If you are really sick, you cant really help others get better, and you may end up getting worse. I got sick in my 3rd term and had to end up taking a medical leave for a month because I let things get so bad. I didnt listen to the dr and continued to attend school and stay up late studying instead of resting. I probably could have prevented having to take that leave if i took care of myself for a week or so.
