Nova Southeastern University Entry-Level BSN Winter (January 2016) !

Published

Hello everyone !!

I was looking for a post for the Entry-Level BSN program for Winter 2016 at Nova and I couldn't find one, so I decided to make one where we could all get in contact to discuss and share our experience, tips, thoughts and questions on this journey !

So, I guess I'll begin with mine!! I originally began my application to Nova April 30th (kind of late considering their deadline for registration was June 1st) for the Fall Semester. After I submitted both my nursingCAS and the NSU application, it took about 2 weeks to receive a response. I got my email for the interview May 19th. I immediately registered for an interview (June 4th, tomorrow!!!) and began to prepare.

I called Nova, to see if I could get some feedback as to what I could use to study from, or if there was any specific book I could purchase. The girl who I spoke to kindly informed me that there was no specific study guide and that the test would be based on previous knowledge from my prerequisites. With that being said, I immediately started googling and finding out as much information as possible about the Exam and the interview process (where I came to find this website that has genuinely helped me so much with gathering info). I then purchased the "Nursing School Entrance Exams" Kaplan book through Amazon, which cost me around $20, and began to study from that. I can' t tell you guys yet if that worked for me or not since we don't know the exact material of the exam and I hadn't taken the exam yet, but I'll make sure to come back and let you guys know how it went!

I received a call last week on Friday, that there were no more available seats for the Fall Term 2015. The girl I spoke to advised me to still present myself to the interview and take the exam. She also told me that the application could be moved to the Winter Term and that way I don't have to apply all over again and go through the same process. So, that's what I plan on doing.

I am so nervous for the exam more than anything, since I don't know what to expect, but I am trying to stay positive.

Good luck to all the new applicants for Winter Term and those that are on the same boat as me. Hopefully we are all together soon in the BSN program at NSU!!!!!!!

Congrats to everyone and their acceptance letters !! SO proud of all of us !!!! Don't forget to add our group page on Facebook :) https://www.facebook.com/groups/160314477641980/

Omg lol. CONGRATULATIONS!!! and Thank you!!!

Congrats to all that have been accepted! I am actually part of the Fall 2015 Davie cohort but unfortunately did not pass A&P (YES PREPARE TO STUDY YOUR BUTT OFF) and will repeating it this Spring 2016 making me part of your cohort.

I know everyone must be super anxious about the classes you will be taking so I want to calm your nerves a little. Besides A&P (will speak about later) you will be taking a Dimensional analysis course which consists of math based on dosages, don't let the name fool you super easy class. I think it was 4 exams and a cumulative final. The final you must pass with a 90 only getting 4 wrong out of 40 that you have a second chance to retake but if fail will have to retake class which like A&P will stay behind from your cohort and only take that specific class.

There are two other classes which are split in two sessions. The first portion is 2 months which is introduction to bachelors in nursing. Another easy course where you will learn APA format for one paper of 3 pages, do several group work and present a lot.I found it boring along with everyone else but the professor was super cool. If your not a great writer I suggest you seek help (professor extremely helpful) its one assignment that they will nit pick everything. The second course for the rest of the two months is introduction to professional nursing which I loved. This is one of the classes that assured me I was taking the right path. You will speak on the career itself, ethics, etc another fairly easy class just busy work, some group projects presentations and an essay.

Now A&P (UGHH) semi hard class but not compared to the amount of information you take which is what makes it hard not the content itself. First let me just say the professor is AMAZING, AMAAAAZING. So amazing you will not need your book as she makes copy of her powerpoints lectures to everyone. When I was reading the posts as you are I did not listen, trust me you do not need the book in fact the book is Chinese compared to her PowerPoints she makes it easy to understand although don't under estimate it is a lot. Your probably wondering how I failed (Received a 71 needed a 75) speaking so well about the course let me tell you although I did study a lot I was overwhelmed with my personal life work, daughter, and everything else. One advice I can give is study right after lectures and go over as much as you can DO NOT LEAVE studying for 2 days before the exam trust me it will not work. The class consists of 5 physiology exams and 3 anatomy exams (kinda easy just a lot and she tricks you with questions, make sure you read the question over and over). None of the professors will provide study guides but will tell you how many questions of each system there will be.

All classes must be passed with a 75% or you will have to repeat. As far ad I know you can only fail 2 classes before you get kicked out.

For books in my opinion the only book I used was the apa manual but I think it just depends cause I believe professors change except for A&P which is Dr. Lyon and professor McNally. Open to any questions although I think I covered alot. Again congrats to everyone! :-D

AMC92 so sorry to hear that you have to repeat A&P we will see each other then. Study harder next time and you'll be fine. Where you working during the semester? Thank you so much for the information provided, very helpfulí ½í¸Š

Hi meicp, I actually did work which could have been part of the problem. I worked 30 hrs a week during the weekend, 10 hr shifts Friday Saturday Sunday. I also had a lot going on which I am hoping is settled before classes start again. They say its impossible to work but if its between eating or starving I say work just be very organized and if you don't have to work then def. do not. I received 95 in all my other classes so I am not too hard on myself.

Hi so sorry to hear that. I was wondering how the schedule for a&p they told us to wait for the first day of class that the professor would tell us.

Hi Sarah30 I am unaware if the schedule is the same but my schedule was Anatomy Mondays only from 1-3 Physiology Mondays 3-5, Wednesday 3-5, and Thursdays from 1-3.

Your schedule is posted online already. You can check it out if you have a sharklink account

Hey Everyone!

I'm just curious to know what we are supposed to wear on the first day? The polos or scrubs?
