Nova Southeastern University or Chamberlain College of Nursing?

Published

Hi Everyone!

I applied to the Nova BSN program for the Fall of 2015 earlier this year, but my transcripts were a bit late to arrive and so I was pushed out to Jan 2016 time frame (which I don't mind at all, because my intentions were to start in January anyway). So now I am waiting...:nailbiting:

I've also applied at Chamberlain College of Nursing in Miramar. I've already taken the HESI Entrance Exam and received an 82%. I should hear back from them in a week or so to see if I have been accepted. :)

I really like both of these schools, but I am having a difficult time deciding on which one to go to (should I be accepted to these programs). I hear great things about Nova & Chamberlain (Miramar), and the passing rates for the NCLEX on both are very good as well. I do live closer to Chamberlain, and the accelerated program is a great option for me as well because I am a mother of 3 kids. So I guess the sooner I finish, the sooner I will get a job to help support my family. I don't plan on working during the time I will be in school, thankfully I have the support of my husband and a flexible side business that will help us through this time. This doesn't mean it won't be easy financially!

Nova is a reputable school and I hear great things about Nova's graduate students, such as "Nova nursing students are very well prepared" and I really want that! Chamberlain Miramar campus is relatively new, so it's still building its reputation in the local medical community. I have very little feedback on nurses graduating from here and being hired in local hospitals. I like that Chamberlain has small class sizes and did I mention how close it was to where I lived? However, Nova takes 27 months to complete while Chamberlain will take me just under two years to complete.

I am torn...one because I love Nova for many reasons but I also don't think I can put my husband through the extra 6 months of supporting our family alone while I am in school. I want to make the right decision for my career without affecting our family too much. I don't know if finishing "faster" is better than finishing a little later and actually learning everything at a good pace. Ugh! It's very frustrating for me... I am going back and forth on this!

Feel free to comment and give me your feedback ;)

Thanks and I wish everyone the best of luck in your journey!

Hey, so what did you decide ? Did you ever get acepted into Chamberlain ? What is your GPA ?

Hi Cathyc28!

I was actually accepted to both Chamberlain and Nova :-) I decided that Nova was the best fit for me and I am starting on Jan 4th. I'm super excited and know I made the right decision. My GPA is a 3.3.

hows the program going ? do you recommend it to others? how much are you looking to owe

Hi everyone, I am having a dilemma such as Luisa25. I have recently started at Chamberlain this year January 2018 but have recently received an email for an interview with Nova. I am nervous as to what to do. Nova miami campus is much much closer to me (like walking distance) than Chamberlain-Miramar as I do live in Kendall. I am not sure what decision to make if I am accepted to Nova. Does anyone have any advice?? I applied to Nova back in August 2017, got denied, re-applied in January just to see what would happen even though I already started at Chamberlain and by some miracle I have received an interview. I am just so undecided as to what is the best decision to make ;/ Anyone have any thoughts??
