Nova Southeastern University BSN Fall 2018

Published

Hello, I saw that there wasn't a thread created for the fall term 2018 in nova. I wanted to know if anybody is already studying for the test, and if so, what book are you using to study?

Thank you for offering your help!! Nova offered me 2,500 per semester of subsidized loans and 1,000 of unsubsidized loans per semester but unless I get the baptist scholarship this is not enough loans to cover my tuition, so I wanted to know if they offered you more later on or if you received any scholarships and such?

@nsurn2020, I like Jansport backpacks. Some people have those or large purses (like MK, other designer bags), or like customized bags they got from Amazon. Whatever works for you really. Most of us bring our laptops to take notes, paper, pencils, folders etc. Some bring their books to class, get a bag that will fit whatever you need to carry. First semester you will take a couple introductory nursing classes, these will focus on the history of nursing and theories, and also like writing papers and APA style writing. You will also take Advanced Anatomy and Physiology (the same one the Medical/Dental/PA etc students take). It is a pretty rigorous course but it is doable, so don't forget your A&P.

@Victoria.Hern016, as far as aid I got couple grants, my two loans like you mentioned but if you go on NSU's website you can search for scholarships there. I have gotten scholarships that way. Some people also take the Parent Plus loan, or get on a payment plan.

If you goto Uniforms for America (it is near the Fort Lauderdale Campus on Broward Blvd and University Drive) they will be able to help you with ordering scrubs for the program. They are familiar with our program as a majority of the people in it go to get their scrubs there. They know what color you need (teal), and they know you need the embroidery done. They also know how the embroidery needs to be done and you fill out a form for it and everything. You go there, try on the different brands and see which ones you would like. You then pay for the embroidery there too and they send the top out and call you back when your order is ready. It takes a few days to a week to get the top back. The book store takes forever to process orders. I ordered my lab coat from the book store and it took almost 6 weeks. I would goto Uniforms for America for my scrubs and then if you know for sure you are in and attending in Fall 2018, order the lab coat from the bookstore now. They also have the lab coats and patches needed for the embroidery for the lab coat and you can get it done there but I just got it from the book store so I knew for sure it was the right length/style etc. Uniforms for America often always has sales. People in my program mostly get Cherokee, WonderWink, Grey's Anatomy, and Purple Label scrubs.

Can I buy the scrubs online and have them embroidered someplace?

Hello I will be attending Fall 2018 at Fort Lauderdale. I was wondering if you can remember the number of classes you took your first semester and how frequently you would go per week. Also I am curious to know how much they charge per credit hour or how much is one class at the nursing program or do they vary. Thank you.

Hello everyone! I am a currently in my 6th semester at NSU (one more semester left until graduation in December), at the Fort Lauderdale Campus. I can answer any questions or concerns about the program the best that I can! :)

Hi and thank you I am very please to see that you are willing and able to help. My first question is is work doable while in the program because I i was offered work study and it's a good amount of money. How many classes do we have to take each semester, is there a website that could help us to get through each semesters, please and thank you

First off, thank you for offering your help!

I would like to know what the schedule like? What days and hours you go to lecture? I do have a newborn and toddler so I would have to work around them too. Thanks in advance for the response

You can buy the scrubs online as long as the color is correct and you know exactly what the embroidery needs to look like. If you search #AllTealWeHeal on Instagram you will see pictures of people in their scrubs.

@ serenity93 and @futurernp, as for scheduling it changes. First semester we had Physiology a few times a week, Anatomy once a week, and two intro to nursing classes, and a math class for med calculation (no longer offered). Second semester we had Foundations of Nursing (first real nursing class with skills), Health Assessment, Pathophysiology and Problem Solving (this semester is a real make or break you in the program), then third is Medical Surgical Nursing 1 and Pharmacology 1, and Ethics (online, easy), fourth semester is Med Surg 2 and Pharm 2 and I am not sure about the third class because the curriculum is being changed. Fifth semester is Maternal/Child, Genetics, and Research. Sixth semester is Psych and Population (Community nursing) and another course but like I said they are changing the program around. Finally in seventh semester you are taking Advanced Med Surgical nursing, your Practicum (preceptorship, internship, working with one nurse), and one other course. Clinical rotations do not start until second semester and are two days a week until fifth semester where it is one day (this semester you take Maternity one half, Peds other half vice versa) clinical corresponds with this. For sixth it is back to two days, one day of Psych and one day at Community. Anything is possible while in the program, some people have kids and do just fine, some people work and do just fine. Some people in my class are young, first college degree, others waited a few years, some wanted a career change, some this is their second degree (wanted to provide more for themselves or their families). You just have to have a set routine and stick with it and stay dedicated to your studies. As for websites to help, use Kaplan. You are given access when you take the entrance exam for the program and it is a requirement to complete the exams in most classes, but you can create your own tests to use to help study. RegisteredNurseRN is good channel on YouTube. simplenursing is a good page on IG and website as well, and there are many more.

Tuition is over 9K a semester. It does not matter how many credits you take, the program and courses are set according to the semester and you take your courses based on what semester you are in. When you start with your class first semester you will be with them until seventh. For my financial aid I receive a pell grant, two other grants, and my two federal loans and a scholarship or two it depends on the semester. I still have a balance after all of this so sometimes my parents do a payment plan, other people pay the rest out of pocket, and some get enough aid to get a refund check or not owe a balance at all. People in my program have taken the parent plus loan, private loan, or get their education funded by the military through their veteran benefits. Everyone's situation is different.

Uniforms Advantage will embroider the scrubs that I buy online with my name and the appropriate logo.

I called the school and they say that they use Meta lab coats, but the young lady that answered the phone didn't know the exact length and style.

Does anyone know what lab coat I should order?

Thanks,

The lab coat has to be embroidered with your name on it, and it has to have the NSU Nursing Patch on it as well on the left shoulder of the lab coat. Will Uniform Advantage do all of that for you? I'm not sure if you saw an earlier post but the best places to get the lab coat would be from the book store it self (if you are going to use the bookstore and you are starting in Fall 2018, I would order it now because it takes a while), or from the uniform store near the school called Uniforms for America, it is right off of University Drive and Broward Boulevard. At Uniforms for America they know exactly how the scrubs need to be embroidered, they have a form you fill out to get them done correctly, and they send the top out and you get it back within a few days. Same with the lab coat, you will out the same form with the correct spelling of your name, and they have the patch that has to be on the lab coat as well. I am not sure if you can buy the lab coat from somewhere else and then get it embroidered because you have to make sure that the embroidery is correct, and the place has to have the patch to put on your lab coat as well.
