Nova Acceptance???

Published

Just got my acceptance letter from Nova. Was turned down from MDC. I am so nervous i am not the best student i have three kids the newest one is only three months old and will be 6 months when i start in August i am wondering if i am biting off more than i can chew. I have been working towards this for so long i dont want to turn anything down but am afraid that the program will be too tough with all my other responsibilities at home. What do es anyone think?????

I was also wondering lets say i start and then i get an acceptance letter from BCC for January will i be allowed to leave without any reprucussions. if anyone knows what my chances are of getting into BCC? Im afraid to turn down Nova and then get turned down from BCC.Also i am so scared of that advanced anatomy class it was a struggle at Miami dade im sure it will be a struggle at Nova. Please any advice

I had to pay the same thing too when I went there. the money out of your pocket needs to flow like water in to nova's pocket

I took out a 2K loan and the rest I paid with a little savings I had. So $4K for the semester, $1K for the spot, $75 copy fees, $175 special activity fees & not to mention the $80 for the 2 lab coats embroidered with my name on them, the 5 aqua green scrubs for going to school (if not you have to dress up business casual-- remember that contract you signed) & all that driving all the way up to davie----- I spent less at BCC in the 2 year program there!!!

I feel very blessed that I was given the opportunity for BCC----

But definitely you are doing a good thing by applying to BCC-- what I did like about the school was the schedule.

M&F 9-12 and tues or wed clinical day---- that's it.

just the first semester was kinda crazy because the math class was like at 4pm so I had to be on campus for 4 hours (so I would go and read at the library or go to eat with classmates).

and the pharm was on thursdays from 9-12 for the entire 12 week semester.

after that it was like I wrote previously.

NOVA's first semester was like having a job- from 9-2pm monday thru friday. but I hear that they change it each semester-- so I do not know how it is now.

but anyways, again, I think that it is a great thing you are doing by having BCC as a back up-

MDC sucks!! (for not taking us in!!).... but at the end, I think that we are at a better school, with higher nclex-rn passing rates!

ok thanks for the info so the money that i dish out for Nova will not go towards BCC but can be applied to my Bachelors program when i decide to go back. I have to send them a check by the 16th for 500 dollars to hold my spot then they want another check of 500 by the 30th. I really need to get enough loans to cover the whole thing and i dont know if ill be able to im afraid that i will loose my 1000 dollars. I have to depend fully on the loans for the whole thing.

Again thank you so much for all your help, you have been extremely helpful. Ill kjeep you updated on how it goes. Thanks again cant wait to be in your place.

IDnK what the requirements are, but once you are at NOVA's program, memorial hospital will come and talk to the class about the scholarship. You have to apply and interview for it. memorial will give you $30K scholarship and you have to sign a 3 year contract to work for them in an area where there is a need for nurses. when I was there there were 50 students accepted/// but from somene on these boards, I hear that now there are 100 students accepted, but when I was there, they only gave the scholarship to 5 people. which that is something that you should apply for, my buddy got the scholarship, and he said that they gave him a check for that amount so he could pay for school.

thanks so much i just registered for that HCP class that BCC requires i can take it at sheridan tech in three weeks then ill have my app ready. My Gpa is lower than yours though its a 3.1 and the lady told me that bcc only looks at ur anatomy's, eng, chem which i got a C in anat 2 and a c in a anat lab. So those really bring me down but i can only try. im gonna go to financial aid this week before i give them the 500 dollars and hopefully they can tell me my options. But thanks again. Wish me luck.

I wish you the best of luck in your career plans!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate to bother you again but maybe you can give me a heads up on the anatomy class what to expect the first semester. Maybe you can tell me what to freshen up on. Thanks so much

I had a similar experiance as you did. I had been turned down 3 times from MDC, 2003-2006. I went to a UM information workshop and their advisers were very helpful in getting me accepted into the BSN program.Im glad I didnt give up after Miami Dade said no, since I am now BSN RN. Best of luck

That's awesome!!!!!!!! Congrats on that!!!!!!!!!

I almost applied at UM but I missed their deadline-- and ended up at NOVA-- but that didn't work out for me--- ended up at BCC and made it as an RN.

Go mdc rejects! LOL just kidding! I am happy to hear those stories of success because it makes me feel like I am not the only one who was rejected by mdc.:yeah:

we did well!!:smokin:

I did not keep any information on that class.

But I do remember- that there is a cardiologist that teaches the heart portion of the class--- so know your heart anatomy and how it works-- the flow of the heart, the muscle fibers and how they work--- the calcium and sodium channel--

Also kidneys-- you need to know how that works in detail.

the cranial nerves.

liver--

if you kept any old notes from the MDC a^p class you should use that too. people in my class that were doing well said that they read those..

If you have any study guide from the anatomy class that you took before-- because when you go to the lab portion of the class-- you will be going to the cadaver lab-- but the tests are on paper-- he will say "this bone is connected to what bone?" on paper-- then you have a choice either A or B...

a lot of people did well in that class--- so don't worry but do study since you already know you are not the best in memory.

i am so so horrible at memory-- that is why I took three months to study for nclex-- because there are a few topics tha either you know it or you don't. like diabetes, child development stages, crutch walking, drugs--

Hi,

Thank you all for very informative discussions , glad to say that this discussions have helped me a lot.

I am BCC nursing student , I got on Jan 2010 program , but as many of my classmates faced I got low numbers in NP1 exam which lead to me to decide to avoid risk of failure and I ended in withdrawing from the class. I will be readmitted to BCC for May 2010 , but at this point I am a bit wary about BCC because of my daunting experience and some stats like dropout or fail rate of more than 70%. So at this point I have to decide whether I want to continue with BCC or go for other options such as Nova.

If I continue with BCC and incase I fail/ withdraw from one more class that ends my admission chances for Nova as per admissions advisor at Nova. (I have 3.6 GPA and one W on my transcript). This even put my aspiration to be RN in jeopardy as will get only one more chance at BCC. Don’t want to lose both BCC and Nova.

If decide to go drop BCC and go with Nova for Jan 2011, I have to complete one prereq class. Again the dilemma is how is Nova as compared to BCC , from the point of view of successes fully completing the program.

To all experienced and new users please help me decide….thanks a lot again for all your time and help.
