Not the residents, not the work - It's THE STAFF!

OMG - I am a new nurse. I started LTC beginning of November. I am a fast learner - I can do my med pass and chart with a few minutes to spare some shifts.

But the day shift I get report from (always running late with report) and night shift I report off too - soooo rude and always complaining no matter how PERFECT I try to leave the cart. But she doesn't say it to me - just makes snippy comments and then it gets back to me via someone else.

Ugh it drives me crazy! After 8hrs of being super (efficient, smiling, supportive) - I don't have time or energy. PLEASE give me something I can do in situations like this because my tolerance is thinning and she should no better because she's been a nurse forever and 2 days!

Signed,

Out of Patience

Hey Sunshyne tell the nurses to kiss off. Fortunately I am a guy in nursing and female nurses never give me a hard time. I guess I just have that look. Besides if they did give me a hard time I'd ream them like I own them. I've been in this business far too long for nonsense on the job and I do not tolerate it. If you do your job well and have no issues with management, as a nurse you are on the same level as any other nurse you relieve or any who relieve you so tell them to save their ******** for someone else. And the fact that you are a new nurse does not give other more experienced nurses the right to give you crap. So tell them to kiss off too.

Thanks so much everyone! I have to say your comments either made me smile because you "get it" or laugh out loud!

@Ricksyone - the doctors degree by osmosis?!!?! - hilarious!!

Some of these comments are so very encouraging for us new LTC nurses, haha.

I start next Thursday, and already I had a minor hiccup. I work with a gal at my current job (the job I worked while going through nursing school), and her Mother is a CNA at the LTC facility I got hired onto. Well, I told the daughter that I went to an interview to a hospital for a Psych Nurse position, and she told her mother, and her mother told near everyone at the facility, "Don't get too used to having this one around, he's already leaving to a hospital..."

This is happening without me even being there, I'm starting to wonder what will happen when I get there, haha. No problem though. I'm going to nip that bud straight away. I've a way to handle these types of people, and they may not like it, but they'll have no choice but to respect me for it. I don't play High School games, I'm an adult.

They are just jealous.....I was labeled SuperNurse by one of my collegues....although I wasn't bestest friends with this woman, I felt like she was just not happy that I was a good conscientious worker. I went over and beyond a lot too.....If you KNOW your patients, if you do your rounds, follow up on everything, do all meds/treatments. charting....etc KUDOS to you!!!....you are a great organizer and get the job done.

Don't be discouraged...its lonely at the top I know.

unfortunately, no one wants to be a subordinate anymore...or low man on the totem pole.....WE all strive for the top...but no matter what you do and who you work for...there will always be a boss....always......and we all know who the TOP BOSS iS.....God,

I found the most drama is in LTC. Between the work load, resident's family or management it's never a good time. I've worked in many nursing homes & it's all the same. I worked in one (for a weekend) & at the interview the DON told me the demeanor of all the staff is low! Uhh, why at the interview would you tell me??? She's lucky I came back, but then left promptly after I saw what she was talking about.
