Not my day

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I have the highest average grade in my class, 97.2, and my teacher had the audacity to call me out because I have had a few tardies. These rules were not made for people like me, they were made for people who show up late and don't know what they are doing. I occasionally show up late and know what I'm doing better than anyone else, I would go as far to say that I could teach my class if I had to. I know that I should be motivated to get up and be there on time, but I really hate morning classes and this is an early morning class, so it is hard for me because I am a night time person. I could work 3rd shift and it would not phase me in the least bit.

Thanks for the advise everyone.

I'm not a morning person myself so I feel your pain. I graduate in May and I might be the only person in my class that thinks new grads often getting stuck with 7p -7a is a plus. LOL. However, I know I have to get myself up and get to class and clinicals on time. Trust me on this. Due to no fault of my own, I was carpooling with another student, but she was late, therefore we both ended up being late to clinicals, we were written up. Which resulted in an incomplete grade at the midterm evaluation. In the end we both passed. We were never late after that and our performance in clinical's were exemplary but 1 more time being late could have resulted in failing clinicals, thus failing the entire course. All because of being a few mins late.

Don't let tardiness derail what you are trying to do. So just set your alarm, I set 2 LOL, I know I'm not gonna get up for the first one. When you need to be on the floor @ 6:00 am, that's what it means. So I suggest trying to break this habit now before nursing school. Nursing school can be very unforgiving when it comes to not abiding by rules so try to break this habit ASAP.

This is an exemplary example of constructive criticism. I respond best when a response is worded like such, and I think that most other people do to. Also, this is the only post offering a solution. The rest of you just pointed out the problem, and even I knew what the problem was.

I have worked in management for different organizations throughout my life, and I can tell you that it's pointless to say there is a problem (when it's clear that there is) and not suggest a solution. For example, I would have told myself that I realise it may be tough for you to get to an early AM class because you are not a morning person, but one must weigh the pro's and con's. If you continue to be late then you will lose points from your final grade, and if this action continues it may cause one to be kicked out of nursing school in the future. That being said, let's look at the benefits of showing up late... The only one that I can think of is having a few extra spare minutes in the morning. Therefore, when you weigh the benefits against the cons, it is rational to conclude that showing up on time will be more beneficial.
