Winchester Medical Center
Inova Loudoun
Reston
or
Frederick MD
Any opininons on which places are supportive to nursing? Not so supportive?

I work in a great (though relatively small) hospital in southwestern virginia, close to the WVA border. I don't have much experience with the northern virginia hospitals, but I do know that Winchester Medical Center was just rated among some of the top hospitals in the nation by one company along with my hospital Rockingham Memorial and Augusta Medical Center, both more on the south western end of the state. I have also heard some really great things about Inova. Good luck with your search!

You might want to check on Winchester's turnover rates...
Yeah, I've heard some stuff about that. Any idea why? I heard something about really low pay?
Low pay, crappy ratios, BS politics.
Augusta Medical Center, both more on the south western end of the state.
I have a friend who worked for Augusta Medical Center and seemed to like it. Too far for me now. : - )
I've heard great things abou Augusta Medical. The employees i know there LOVE it, it has on ON-SITE daycare center as well!!
My friend works at AMC, totally loves it, and met her fiance there. I have thought about going to work there when I graduate, but I've heard some not so great things about their ER, and since that's where I want to stay when I graduate, I'm thinking I'll stay where I am and where I know the ropes until I can move over to Charlottesville. UVA is where I want to work - anyone have any insider info about their ED? We send our critical trauma over there, so I'm assuming it must be a good medical facility, and the hospital has been ranked really high... anyone know about job satisfaction at UVA, specifically their ED, pay on high or low end, etc?

I don't know about employment there, but from a pt. perspective Reston Hospital is great!
UVA doesn't have the best reputation to their employees right now.
UVA is where I want to work - anyone have any insider info about their ED? I actually did my clinicals at UVA and started as a nurse there on a renal/resp med/surg floor before I moved (husband changed jobs). It was the most challenging six months of my life, but I felt very supported by mentor and fellow nurses. There was something going on about the pay scales being changed for the non-full-time employees - I forget what it's called - but they work a certain number of hours and don't take benefits. That did not make for happy nurses, but as far as fellow employees, and me being a new nurse, I would have stayed if I had not moved. I have many former PVCC classmates who are there a year post graduation. Don't know much about the ED, though.

Reston is supposed to be pretty good to work in. Also INOVA Fairfax, but depending on where you live it's a miserable commute.
