northwestern institute of health

Published

Hi has anyone graduated from northwestern institute of health and technology in Chicago, Il ? If so what was the experience like? This school does not have a waiting list for LPN however it is expensive. Was wondering if it is worth it.

You probably won't get many responses in reference to NWIHT. I've asked a few questions regarding the school and not many people may know about the school.

I have two friends who attend NWIHT. My sister's co-worker said it was ok however expensive. He didn't care because he just wanted to complete a program ASAP and start working in the field. Men do not think to long...they just make a decision to do it and get it over with it. Some women contemplate to long and end up not making a decision in a timely manner or not doing what they need to do. It took me a year to research almost every nursing program in ILLINOIS and a few of the warm states.

Try to apply for the 8K WIA grant. I was awarded the grant and decided to attend Devry/Chamberlain. I'm unable to pay for college out of my pocket and will take the refund money and attend the CC for a few pre-req's and may transfer to NWIHT. It will cut down on at least 4-5K. I have to do what works for me and my family.

Hope you make the right decision for you and your family.

Best wishes!

Thanks after doing resarch i decided to give this school a try and i did apply for the WIA grant and IDPH gave me a LPN scholarship which covers the other half of the tuition so I'll just hope for the best. So far so good though. I'll keep you posted......

Go for it especially if the tuition is paid for via scholarship and WIA.

how did you get the wia....? i was looking into it but i just dont know exactly where to look? can you please assist me in this search since you already have the funding. thx:d

Jessicuy,

I inquired about the WIA grant on 75th Pulaski, on Daley College campus. This is the process at this location:

1. attended a 45 minute orientation

2. completed initial paper work

3. returned the forms and schedule a meeting with a career

4. met with career counselor and set appointment with intake counselor

5. met with intake counselor and scheduled appointment with career counselor

6. completed and an IEP (Indvidual Education OR Employment Plan)

7. attend a 5 day job training workshop (the facilitator was very full of self)

8. scheduled to meet with career counselor and had to complete training forms

for the school I wanted to attend. You must complete 2 forms by taking them to

2 separate school. Must have been accepted at 1 school when you receive the

forms. ALSO, you must complete a seris of questions related to your chosen

field of study (Nursing for me). A LOT of questions and complete a statistic

search on how much nurses make, how many are working in IL and Chicago, etc.

9. Return forms to career counselor and wait for an approval from WIA which took me

two weeks. It normally doesn't take that long; I had a special circumstance.

Honestly, I would attend the WIA program on 43rd and Cottage Grove. Very professional and great service. 75th and Pulaski WIA representatives are not all that great and they WILL give you a VERY DIFFICULT time during the process.

It took me at least 2.5 months to complete process. In acutuality, it took me 7 months because my 90 period had expired. My career counselor didn't return my calls and wanted me to work opposed to attended nursing school and receiving the grant. I attended their so called job club given every Tuesday - WORTHLESS!!! I applied for 7 positions and NEVER heard anything from the Job Developers or my Career Counselor.

Any other questions, just PM me and I'll be happy to assist you.

Best wishes.

Thank you for responding.... i really appreciate it! I haven't yet applied to any program, however i will be doing so within the next couple of months. Is this program specifically designed for those that aren't employed? Again thank you for taking time to answer my questions and the info given is very helpful and i will start looking into it!:yeah:

I don't believe the program is specifically designed for those unemployed. There are employed individuals seeking a second career or as its called a career change. It would be unfair to disapprove employed individuals from actively participating in the program. For example, if someone was employed at Target and decided to go into the health care field, they should be granted an equal opportunity to participate in the WIA program.

Enjoy your day.

thxs.... :loveya:enjoy your day and good luck in your future career:nurse:

Hi! I was just wondering how you get a scholarship through IDPA? I went to the WIA orientation as well as the intake appointment and the intake counselor was NOT helpful at all. I went to the Northside workforce center on Sheridan. I guess I didn't have everything that I needed to complete my file I was basically shown to the door. I don't know if I qualify. I saw on the website for workforce that you have to make under $11,000/year to qualify. Is this true? Any help would me nice :-)

I'm not quite sure if that is correct. It may be more than 11K. PM me with specific questions because I can possible have them readily availble when I answer. WIA WILL give you a very difficult time. I will contact my friend whom is experiencing a little more professionalism with the WIA program on 10th and Kedzie (I know its on Kedzie). Give me a day or so and PM me and I'll try to get the information for you. Have a great evening. Oh, did they tell you exactly what you needed? If not, I'll get the info for you.

Hi, Thanks for the resonse. I'm not sure how to PM  I'm failry new to the site. Do you know if I have already started the process for one site, can I switch to another site for the WIA grant? Also, do you know of any other grants/scholarships available for Northwestern Institute? I'd really like to go there, but it is SOOO expensive! But it's literally 3 blocks from my apt :) If this school doesn't work out I'm going to try KKC in englewood, but I'm a little iffy about the neighborhood. I've been told by several people not to go there. But I need my education and I need it now.

Thank you!!!!
