I love this web site! I have been reading it for a while. However, this is my first post. I am just wondering if there is anyone waiting for acceptance letter from NVCC. It took me two years to finish my prerequisites. Now, I am just waiting. By the way, BIG thank you to those students 30 and over for good example. I am 34 1/2 with three kids. I couldn't have done it without knowing that I am not alone. Thanks guys!
I have some questions for any of you attending NoVa. I will be meeting with a student advisor soon, but I wanted to get input from you all first. Here is my situation.
I'm 31, married, with 2 kids (3 yo and 11 mo). I have a BS in Biology and an MS in Bioinformatics. I should not have to take any of the pre-reqs based on my previous education. By my calculation I will have to take 51 total credits. I know they STRONGLY advise against working full time during the program, but I have to. Have any of you worked full time while going through the NoVa nursing program? Is it possible to take a lighter load than what they outline? I know it will take longer, but that's just something I'll have to deal with.
Thank you!
hi everyone
im kinda new to the site
i need help, motivation, support, and additional resources to assist me in preparing for the HESI entrance exam. I failed the test the first time by 2% in the vocabularry section. can some one tell me how to better prepare for the vocabulary part of the test. u see english is not my first language and i feel that my vocabulary is quite weak as well. I have completed all my prerequisites and i am applying for next summer and fall 09 programs at NOVA, Marymount, and a couple private schools. I have to get in next year by the fall 09 or else i will have to repeat all my prerequisites. I had taken all of them 4 years ago and when i apply to the programs it will be 4.5 years. By the time i start it will have been five years since the completion of my prerequisites.
in addition to all school related tensions, i just had a baby in january. My husband and i just decided that we will take the baby overseas to her grandparents and leave her there for the amount of time i am in nursing school. I am going to do that in october of this year. i am really afraid to drop the baby off and then get rejection letters from all the nursing schools. I dont want to retake all my prerequisites. I also have been trying to get in to nursing schools since 2004. All i have received are rejection letters.. But i still keep trying. I will break into two if i dont get in this time cuz i will have dropped my child off overseas, and i will have to repeat all my prerequisites.
i hope someone out there understands what i as a student/mother am going through.
i also need to take the TEAS exam to apply for Marymount University's program. its been 5 years since i took this exam.. so i have to review for this too.
please help me find study guides for the two exams. i already have one for the HESI but not for the TEAS. i have to apply to the programs before i go overseas which is october 2008.. so please help me...
thanks all in advance

I won't be much help since I'll be starting my prereq soon, but are you sure you want to drop off your baby overseas? I think that your idea is pretty extreme as a mother myself I can tell you in advance that you will be miserable...I wish you the best of luck!

I completely agree with that statement.....
I've taken the TEAS test and the HESI test and found the TEAS to be much harder( the difference in my math score was a 92 vs 80). You can get the study manual directly from the ATI website http://www.atitesting.com/onlinestore/productpage.aspx?code=61&isproduct=1 or you can try to find it a little cheaper on places like ebay.
Hey, I got excepted for the traditional nursing program at NVCC and I'm 28. I also have an almost 2 year old son so i know how stressed out you can get. I have to find daycare before school starts and whats worse, I don't have the money to pay for it, but I'll have to get the money somehow. It took me 2 years to do my pre-reqs also, with having to work, pregnancy, sick parents, and brother in prison. All of this stuff going on can really affect your ability to do well in school. I'm really nervous now for school to start, but I hope and pray that I will get through the program. Actually, I have to tell myself, "I will succeed no matter what and I can do this in two years like most of the other students!" Tell yourself that, it really helps me.
What shoes did you get for clinicals? I'm going crazy trying to decide which type will be the best for my feet. I have wide feet. Also, what kind of backback (one on wheels)?
I love these forums. You can find a lot of answers to all your questions and support! Thanks "Flames" for all of the information about the nursing program-you're a life saver!!!
