I'm starting this thread as a 'buddy group' since there are a few NECC students and grads here. It would be nice to be able to share information and help each other out!

Not sure if this belongs in the MA or student forums, so please move if needed. It will be much easier to resurrect in the MA forum, and there seem to be lots of school postings there, so that's why I chose it.

Hi,

Yes, I already took Chemistry last semester. I have been out of high school a while so I decided to take it just in case:) Did you take it yet? I wonder if they will add any other classes.. We don't have to take the TEAS again right?? I am excited to start..

Hi again,

I think the wait list is 30 percent of the program capacity. So I think 10 people maybe are on the wait list. Does this sound right. So we might have a chance for 09..

as long as you passed A+p I thought you didn't need to take chemistry, chemistry is now a pre-requisite to take A+P, or no?

Hey everyone! I did not get into the program. I am wondering if you feel like sharing how you did on your teas, how your grades were and if you have all of your prereqs finished. I was very upset and trying to figure a way to see how they chose. I think they may of picked out of a hat. I applied in September. I have everything done except nursing. I currently work in a hospital and am quite shocked I did not get in. I got a 79 on my teas and I have a B+ average. Maybe my grades were not good enough. I just think the program needs to go on more than just grades. I have seen several people get A's and then when you put them into clinical they fail it. I do not think being an A student makes you a great nurse. Any thoughts would be great. Congrats on who go thte onthe wait list. You should be guaranteed a spot next year, unless they change the program. I also think you have to take Chemistry, but I would find out for sure...

hello everyone,

i applied in september 2008 for the fall 2009 and was accepted. i decided that this was the program i wanted to get into as soon as i got out of highschool so i have been working at this since i graduated in 2007. i have been doing summer courses as well as being a full time student in the fall and spring semesters to get all of my pre-reqs done. has anyone else been accepted into the program here?

also, i just wanted to respond to ljv4boys...i took my teas last summer, i did well, i passed the math portion by the skin of my teeth but i did pass all other subjects fine. i found the math portion to be the hardest, but thats just me! my suggestion would be to read and study the practice book like crazy. i think the question in the teas prep manual were wonderful, they were just like the questions on the test...did you get the book? as far as my pre-reqs...i got a's in everything. i heard that it is extremely important to get a's in your sciences in order to get into the program. i havent spoke with anyone else in the program so i am only speaking on my behalf. good luck and i would just say to try very hard to get a's as well as study hard for your teas.

good luck to everyone.

Hi that is great you got in Congratulations!!

I did study for the teas exam actually I studied really hard. I would of gotten A's, but I have a family of 4 young boys, a husband, and I also work part time. Needless to say I work hard at school, but have other responsibilities that I have to take care of and cannot ignore. I feel I did well considering my situation.

When I was right out of High school I went right into nursing and when I look at it now there is no way I was ready. I am very ready now and have a ton of experience in the medical field. It is disappointing because when I am ready the program is not ready for me.

It bothers me when people are signing up just because they think it is good money. Nursing is extremely hard and if people are not caring and doing it for the $$$ they will not last a year. I firmly believe NECC should conduct entrance interviews before accepting anyone. It would give them a sense of who is there for the right reasons. Nursing is a big commitment. I would not want to have a nurse caring for me who is there just for the $$.

I also think that NECC should of informed people that there would be no night program before poeple signed up./ I applied for the day in September, but I feel bad for those people who were told after they applied. Also since this program is so popular why not have more classes?? The teachers get decent pay. Something just does not seem right. Well good luck to you all.....

I agree. I thought that they should have an interview with the person interested in the program to make sure that they are serious about this field. Im sure it would eliminate people who are not sure if this is really for them. A family friend of mine completed the program at NECC about 10 years ago...it was necessary that the applicants write an essay about themselves and why they were interested in the program. I think that this is something they should look into doing again. Good luck and I hope to see you get into the program soon.

Well I just spoke with them at NECC and I feel much better. They accepted a diverse group which I was please to hear. They only had 17 spots and 10 were on the waitlist. She said the problem was everyone was qualified. Everyone was good. I just missed the lottery of being chosen basically.

They got rid of the night program to revamp it and it will be back in 2011. Also, they are working on the details for Chemistry. I think if you are on the wait list you will not have to take it, but I would find out for sure. If you are on the wait list you will be guaranteed a spot for 2010. I firmly believe a face to face interview should be given to determine who should get in. Anyone can write an essay, so I think a sit down would give a better idea of who should get in. I also think they should look at your work history. Some people think they may want to be a nurse, and then go to clinical and decide it is not for them.

I am going to start looking into other programs as I would suggest for others. If I do not get in somewhere for the fall, I will probably apply again for 2010 in hopes to get in. Take care and good luck to you all.

Hi ljv4boys,

Just wanted to tell you that this is my second year applying to the program. I didn't get accepted last year or waitlisted. I was very upset last year. I also have about 15 years experience in healthcare. Like you I have a husband, children, and I work part time. I did get A's in my classes and this year I was placed on the wait list. I am very happy about this. I have been working on my pre req's for three years..

I think a B+ is great!! The TEAS in my opinion is hard for anyone who has been out high school a while. I also think interviews are important. Good luck with everything. This process can be very stressful.

As for me I got an 82.4% on the teas and am in the 75 percentile for the program, All A's so far in classes, GPA is 3.9,so deans list and I have my medical assisting certificate from NECC. I don't know if that counts towards them considering me, I would like for them to see that and think i'm taking this healthcare career of mine seriously :) How did everyone else do on the teas if you don't mind me asking? I didn't do too well on the math portion, didnt fail it but I thought/wished I had gotten a higer grade! :p

I keep getting my hopes up thinking I will get a letter or call from Necco saying theres room for me in the program for this coming fall, ahhhhh! I can only hope ..:nurse:

Susie, You will at least get in for 2010 so that is good if you do not get in for 2009. You never know though. I think a lot of people applied elsewhere just in case they did not get into NECC. So you may possibly have a chance. You could give them a call to see where you are on the wait list. They are very helpful. It could make a difference if you are # 1 or # 10.

I hope you get in.... Good luck....

really they can tell you exactly where you are on the waitlist? what number would I call for that info?
