I'm starting this thread as a 'buddy group' since there are a few NECC students and grads here. It would be nice to be able to share information and help each other out!

Not sure if this belongs in the MA or student forums, so please move if needed. It will be much easier to resurrect in the MA forum, and there seem to be lots of school postings there, so that's why I chose it.

I'll go first! I'll be starting the evening ADN program in September. I don't have any advice to share on the nursing part yet, but I can share info about the prereqs/getting in for prospective students. I'm taking Micro over the summer (starting next week), which is my last prereq. I can't wait to actually start the nursing part! I came to nursing school following my dream to be a nurse-midwife, but I think I might be happy to just be an L&D nurse indefinitely. School is going to kill me. ;) Nursing will be my second career, and I'll continue to work part-time in my first career (engineer) as long as possible while in school. I'm married with a toddler. This will be no small feat!!

I look forward to chatting with other NECC students/grads!

hello group! my name is jo and i am going to be a senior in the nursing program at necc in the fall. i am also taking microbiology in the summer because i didn't finish it before i started the program, but it is a prereq for nursing iii. i don't recommend to save it for between nursing semesters because after nursing ii you need a summer vacation! trust me! :uhoh3:

anyway, for advice about this program: there is a lot of reading, try and do it all. also try and learn as many medication classes and common drugs in those classes early on. it will totally help in clinical to know this stuff early. i'm not sure what else to say, if you have any questions i could answer, try me!

Good luck with Micro this summer both of you! Do you know who you have yet??

I am a recent graduate and Im enjoying some time off but also studying for the boards.

Yes there is a lot of reading. I found it necessary to read everything. You will find there are some that never open a book. I just can't learn that way. I needed all the help and info I could get.

Nursing 1 and 3 were my best semesters. The nursing program or any nursing program takes a lot of time and effort. It can be very stressful--just stay focused and the two years will fly by.

I wish you both luck. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

Ladybugsea thank you for keeping me posted!

Echiro I'm taking micro . Starts tonight! I was hoping for another instructor but he's teaching day classes. Good luck with your studying. Do you know NECC's passing rate? I'm curious. Also, did you lose many student over the two years?

Jo So should I be memorizing medications during my August vacation? ;) Will I get a book list at my orientation next week? (The 'orientation' I told you about last month was actually 'registration'.) See you tonight!

I have a silly question about shoes. ;) I wanted to buy the professional Crocs for my clinicals. I tried some on yesterday, but their 'pearl' is not very white! My husband thought they looked gray. Do you think this would be a problem? I think I will prefer lightweight, flat shoes over traditional nursing clogs or sneakers (plus my sneakers have a lot of color on them). I know there are other shoes similar to Crocs, but I either don't like the look of them as much or else they don't have a back strap. Do the hospitals seem to require a clogs to have a strap?

Yes we did lose people. We lost 8 after nursing 2. Grades were below passing (73). Those spaces were then filled with wait list and LPN's.

We had 4 that either didn't finish nursing 4 or didn't graduate because of their average.

It's definitely not easy.

I can't say that I saw any of the nursing student wearing crocs. Many of us had some sort of nursing shoe or clog--or white sneakers. Whatever you pick it must be white. You may want to ask about the crocs before you buy them.

Are you going to your nursing orientation next week? Might want to ask then.

Good luck with micro. Don't know the name you are having.

Hi all! I know this is an old thread, but I'm just looking to get some info. I'm finishing up my last 2 pre-reqs this semester and I'm applying for the nursing program for fall 09.

I spoke with another person applying for the program and she said that it's a very political environment and that they don't necessarily take the top students. Now I don't know if she was pulling my leg, but she indicated that she did very well but there were others who had an "in" but did not do as well as she did. Has anyone experienced this or was I talking to a nut?

What is the typical profile of an accepted student, anyway? What exactly are they going to look for? I'm so nervous now!

Thanks!

I wouldnt say its political but there is no specific protocol they follow...you'll meet people who have finished all their pre reqs with sraight A's and have been in the medical field for years then youll meet people who have just done average still have pre reqs to complete and have never had any exsposure to the medical field. Ihave no idea how they pick the applicant....I got in my first time applying ,but got wait listed initially got a call a week before school was starting to ask if I wanted the slot.

Hey everyone!

I'm just wondering if anyone knows what the average TEAS score for people accepted into the program is. Do you know what score (composite, national percentile, etc) that they use?

I'm so nervous and I'm trying SO hard to get in for Fall '09. I think I'm driving my husband CRAZY :)

Thanks!

we were fortunate we did not have to take the tests : )

I'm applying for Fall 2009. I'm taking my Teas test this Sat. 11-8-08. Does anyone have any advice for taking it. It does not sound like the odds are good to get in!!! Would appreciate any information regarding the program. Thanks. Good Luck to all those applying.

Hello,

I am also appyling to NECCO for the fall 2009. I did apply last year but didn't get in:( Maybe this year.. It doesn't make any sense how they pick the applicants. I think it is pretty random. Good luck to everyone.
